MurcieOne
Straight from the IL front office..........I am Big s***...... so i get all this stuff....lol The International League announced today that Charlotte infielder/outfielder Willie Harris and Toledo pitcher Seth Greisinger have been named the League’s Batter and Pitcher-of-the-Week for the period of April 14-20. Harris and Greisinger are the first members of their respective clubs to receive one of the IL’s weekly awards this season. Charlotte’s WILLIE HARRIS posted four multi-hit games this past week, leading the Knights to five victories and the top spot in the IL South Division and earning IL Batter-of-the-Week honors. The 24-year-old’s week got off to a late start as the Knights were off last Monday. In Tuesday’s 13-7 loss to Louisville, Harris collected three hits, scored a run and stole a base. Charlotte began its’ current winning streak on Wednesday, defeating the Bats 3-0 as Harris went 1-4. The left-hander led off Thursday’s game with Indianapolis with a home run, then added a two-run single in the second inning as Charlotte defeated the Tribe 7-1. In the game, Harris was a perfect 4-4. Friday night’s contest was postponed necessitating a Saturday doubleheader. Moving to the outfield for the first time this season (from his usual second base position), the Cairo, GA native went 2-3 with two runs scored, a home run, and three RBI in the opener, then had a triple and scored a run in the nightcap as Charlotte took two from Indianapolis. Harris and the Knights closed the week yesterday with a 6-3 win over the Indians as Harris went 3-5. By hitting at a .583 clip during the past six games, Harris raised his average to an IL-best .418 (the Charlotte club leads the loop with a .295 team mark). In addition, he ranks among League leaders with 23 hits (2 nd ), a .475 on-base percentage (3 rd ), and a .727 slugging percentage (4 th ). Harris is currently in his second season in Charlotte and second overall with the White Sox organization. The five-year pro spent the first three seasons of his career in the Baltimore system after being selected in the 24 th Round of the 1999 June Draft. He was traded to Chicago prior to the 2002 season for outfielder Chris Singleton and split last season with the Knights and parent White Sox. With Charlotte, Harris hit .283 with 5 HR, 33 RBI, 16 doubles, and 32 stolen bases (4 th in the IL) in just 89 games. Toledo right-hander SETH GREISINGER’S pitching also propelled his club into a tie for the West Division lead as the Mud Hens won both of his starts this past week. Last Tuesday, the 27-year-old worked seven innings against Columbus. Greisinger allowed just two earned runs and seven hits in his seven frames to pick up his second win of the season as Toledo edged the Clippers 5-4. He returned to the hill yesterday and dominated Norfolk, pitching a complete game shutout to run his record to 3-0. The Kansas City native scattered five hits and fanned five in the 5-0 victory. He is one of four IL pitchers with three wins and one of just two with a shutout on the young season. In addition, Seth ranks third among League hurlers with a 1.23 ERA and fourth with 22.0 innings pitched. Injuries have hindered Greisinger’s promising career which saw him reach Detroit in June of 1998, less than two years after he was selected by the Tigers with the sixth overall pick in the 1996 Draft. He made just three starts in 1999, then missed the entire 2000 and 2001 seasons following “Tommy John” surgery on his right elbow. Seth returned to action last year and went a combined 5-3 in 15 starts for the Tigers, Mud Hens, and Double-A Erie. As a collegian, he had a stellar career at the University of Virginia, setting a school record with 295 strikeouts. Chisoxfn
Well with Borchard down Harris is getting more time in center meaning he'd be ready if needed. Right now I think the Sox are being very patient and won't rush anything in terms of callups for another few weeks. I think they kind of know that if Rowand doesnt' make it here, he may not make it at all so they are trying to handle him carefully. He does still have some trade value though, so even if he's not in the future come June or July I think they could move him along with someone else for help in another area. YASNY
I'm for not rushing Harris. Let him prove himself over a period of time. Maybe he'll realize he has to do the job up here before he can stay. He had a chance and didn't get it done.
