greasywheels121
It seems you guys expect wayyyy too much a lot of the time. It's as if you expect that we' should still be batting in the bottom of the 1st of the April 4th Opening Day game. After Buehrle, pitched a 3 pitch 1-2-3 inning, of course. fathom
Santana got away with numerous hangers as the game went on. It just so happened that the hangers were thrown to either guys who couldn't hit a little league pitcher right now (Uribe and Everett) or guys that refuse to swing at the first pitch (PK and Dye). thomsonmi
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 24, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) The best team in baseball needs to learn how to string a few hits together. Stop trying to park pitches and make contact. Small ball where are thou Yea, we're in utter collapse mode now. Folks, on Saturday we were one game away from sweeping the Cubs and going 20 games over .500 in only the 44th game of the season. Two games later we suck. Give me a f***ing break. There are things that need fixing. We obviously need someone to challenge Crede for playing time at third and Vizcaino and Shingo have been awful. Besides that this is the best this team has been since at least '83. Our starting pitching is 6 players deep, we have a very strong bullpen (despite Vizcaino and Shingo) and we are consistently scoring enough runs to win. Konerko and Dye are clearly coming out of their slumps. With Frank coming back soon, you have to be crazy to not be optimistic about the rest of the season. You make a good point, however, after a guy gets lit up in his first MLB start after being called up from AA and then goes the distance and shuts us down, people are going to complain, including me. I usually don't rip the team, but last night was just flat out embarassing. Seriously, those guys should feel embarassed and come out tonight with a chip on their shoulder and hit the damn ball. kapkomet
This is the most f***ed up thread I've seen all year. You would think we're 13-31 instead of 31-13. If we sucked that f***ing bad we would be 13-31 (all we do is pull when we hit).

southsideirish71
QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) For every "Sweeney/Jeter/Manny/etc" there are a hundred Credes. It's time to accept that fact and move on. I remember when we had Royce clayton. Good glove no bat. He batted .251 and .263 for us. Now we have a bunch of guys with sub .250 BA. Last year was the same thing. For this offense to go we need guys who can put the ball in play and hit line drives. Not a bunch of guys trying to jack the ball. But I will say that this year they have not been that bad about it except for last night. Let's just come back and get the next couple... You've gotta find a healthy balance of not slurping the Sox too much and not ripping too much. Too many posters are on one side or the other. Of the 5 starters we saw for the first time, we kicked the crap out of 3 of them. Bedard and Santana pitched well against. Bedard has pitched well against everyone pretty much, so there isn't much embarassement in the numbers we through up against him. All of this corpseball and first time seeing a SP stuff, is pretty much urban legend anymore... It really doesn't hold up to the actual statistics. I'm not happy with everything that's taken place this season so far. However, when you come to Pale Hose Talk, there's a lot more negative than positive on the board right now. I don't really see how that makes sense, when we have the best record in baseball. People need to realize the season goes well past the month of May, and find that happy medium. Rowand44
Gawd, what the hell would this place be like if the sox were around .500, yeesh. Santana was absolutely nasty last night, he was 0-1 0-2 on every hitter, his curveball was absolutely filthy a big, quick breaker. He located his fastball beautifully all night. No team would have hit him he was just on his game. When it looked like we were going to score a run and maybe get something going, Juan Rivera was playing right on the line for some reason to take a double away from Carl. Santana just earned that victory last night, he was outstanding and I can definitely see why he's thought so highly of.

southsideirish71
Our pitching has been great. The back of the bullpen has been great. My favorite lineup is when its Pods Gooch Arow To start it off. Dead is coming around. These are things to be optomistic about. Having Timo, Uribe and Crede hittiing back to back is not good. I think we all would of rather have had Timo in LF, Pods in CF and Pablo in at 3rd. When Thomas and Gload get back a lot of this will get better. But for now its frustrating watching Uribe, Crede and Timo swinging out their asses at the end of the lineup.

I would rather see Carl Everett in CF, than Timo Perez as a starter, and I am not kidding. Also Ozuna is a solid guy off of the bench, and a good defensive SS, but is not everyday material at 3B. There are plays that Crede makes look routine, that many 3B's don't make. Crede's defense alone makes him the starter, without a doubt.
