Buehrle to face Colon

05/24/2005 2:11 AM ET

By Mark Thoma / MLB.com

Mark Buehrle will try to get the White Sox back to their winning ways Tuesday, when he takes on former South Sider Bartolo Colon at Angel Stadium.

Buehrle has won his last six decisions and is 4-0 with a 2.64 ERA in May. In his last start, he threw 7 1/3 scoreless innings to lead the Sox to a 7-0 win over the Rangers.

Colon, who was 15-13 for the Sox in 2003, has been sharp lately as well. He's 2-1 with a 1.53 ERA in May and allowed just four hits and one run in eight innings in his last start to beat the Indians.

Chicago fell Monday to the Angels and rookie Ervin Santana (1-1), who threw a five-hit shutout to beat the Sox, 4-0. Jon Garland (8-1) allowed three runs in seven innings, suffering his first loss in nine starts this season. Paul Konerko and Tadahito Iguchi were both 2-for-4 for the Sox.

This is a battle of the fastest pitcher in the majors against what I would deem the slowest pitcher in the majors (Contreras is right there with Colon though).

If its any consolation one of my friends thats going to tomorrows game has a hex on Colon. He's seen him pitch 9 times and he's pitched awfully in every game but one.

Whenever he goes to the Angles games, they lose...so I told him he was definately going when the Sox were in town :cheers

The sox offense has a good chance against Colon. He is one of those pitchers that likes to challenge our hitters, which means he wont spend his time painting the outside corner. We should get a few good licks on his fastball.

There just better not be any of the following.

NO TIMO PEREZ

NO VIZ

NO COTTS

BENCH CRUDDY AND USE PABLO

NOW BOARDING FROM AAA FRANK THOMAS AND ROSS GLOAD. NOW LEAVING TIMO PEREZ AND KEVIN WALKER.

Let's hope the Corpseball was a one-time thing after the Wrigley roadtrip and the long flight. That was just brutal last night. If we play anywhere near the way we played yesterday, Colon's line is going to look something like:

8.0 IP 1 ER 9 Ks

Bart's gotten a lot better about speed lately. I saw him opening day, and you're right - we were falling asleep inbetween pitches - but then I saw him two weeks ago and he was way faster. Not Buehrle speed of course, but better. Bart works faster when he's pitching well too - so maybe I should prefer for him to be slower.

I went last nite and what can you say - Santana was dealing. Sometimes it happens.

One thing you seem to miss is that if you can spot a 90+mph fastball on the outside black all day long you will win nearly every game. Most pitchers can't do that consistently. Santana was on yesterday, let's move on and try to win at least one on the left coast.

I bet that Timo leads off tonight.  He is going to replace Pods in the lineup.

I bet you're right. Ozzie said something about resting Pods in this series.

If you see that once through the lineup you adjust and start to take the ball the other way or hit it up the middle. You dont stand off the plate, step into the bucket opening up,. trying to pull the pitch on the outisde corner. If thats they case, you will never ever hit that ball.
