Vernon Wells on the trading block?

Probably because he doesn't have protection in the lineup. I would take a good look at him. Anyone know his contract situation?

Wells has a 5-year, $14.7 million contract (2003-2007)...

$0.85 million signing bonus

2003: $0.35 million

2004: $0.70 million

2005: $2.90 million

2006: $4.30 million

2007: $5.60 million

So whatever team traded for him would be taking on $12 million over 2.5 years.

Wells would definitely be nice, he's a very good fielder with some pop. I'm not surprised he isn't hitting that well now, the offense in Toronto is pretty iffy. If we could get him I'd happily dump one of our struggling players and throw in a decent to good prospect. Worst case scenario you get a better fielding Dye who's younger and costs about the same, best case you get a middle of the order hitter.

Would you deal Aaron Rowand for Vernon Wells?

No, not because I think Aaron is better, but because I think Aaron better tipifies this team. Hard working, will do anything, throw his body around. Not that Vernon Wells doesn't do those things, I just wouldn't trade Rowand for Wells. Now, if it was Dye for Wells....

I'd be the happiest man alive if thats all it took.  I'd be willing to give up Sweeney if it was necessary.

I was thinking the same thing. "That's all?"
