Jabroni
"Notes: Club waits to make decisions Hernandez OK to return; Gload, Thomas almost ready" http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws ARLINGTON -- With Brandon McCarthy being shipped back to Triple-A Charlotte following Friday's start against the Rangers, the White Sox have some roster tweaking to do. Chicago went with a 24-man roster on Saturday and may do so again on Sunday as the club evaluates the injury situation and ponders the return timetables of Orlando Hernandez, Ross Gload and Frank Thomas. "We're waiting to see what we're going to do," manager Ozzie Guillen said. Asked if the spot may remain open until the White Sox get home on Monday, Guillen added: "I'm pretty sure. It's only one day. If it was a position player (being sent down), it would be different. But with a pitcher, that's fine." Hernandez has the green light to make a start on Wednesday, but won't have to be activated until then. The White Sox could bring in a Gload or Thomas in the meantime and then make another move when it's time for Hernandez to make his start. "El Duque obviously is ready to go," Guillen said. "We just have to see how we're going to do it. We're going to find out if Frank is ready. He might be an option. We have to find out how ready he is. "He talked to Kenny (general manager Williams) and said he feels good. Everybody feels good when they play Triple-A. They want to get out of there. But we'll send somebody to see him so we know how good it is." Thomas was hitting .184 at Charlotte after going 1-for-5 on Friday. But the White Sox have said they are evaluating Thomas more by how well he moves than his hitting numbers. "When Frank comes here, he has to be ready to help us," Guillen said. "Not just to rehab here in the big leagues. He understands that. He knows my way. When Frank gets here, we're going to need him. Especially the way we're swinging the bat right now." Taking notice: Guillen was impressed when he heard that Texas third baseman Hank Blalock had a 53-game errorless streak until it was snapped on Thursday night at Ameriquest Field. "It's not easy to have an errorless streak on this field," Guillen said. "This field is pretty fast. There are a lot of chances to make errors." Playoff pace: The percentages are with the White Sox as they near the end of the May. In the 10 seasons since Major League Baseball expanded to six divisions, 42 of 60 teams (70.0 percent) who were in first place at the end of May went on to reach the playoffs. The White Sox arrived at the ballpark Saturday with a four-game lead in the American League Central. Around the horn: The White Sox are on a pace for 493 walks, which would mark their lowest total since 1984. ... Guillen is looking for more production from the No. 7 spot in the batting order. Going into Saturday's game, the No. 7 hitters were just 2-of-32 since May 17. ... Shortstop Juan Uribe was in the No. 9 spot Saturday as Tadahito Iguchi started at second base and was slotted No. 2 in the order. Guillen has said he wants Uribe to hit second when Iguchi isn't playing. Coming up: The White Sox will wrap up the Texas series on Sunday with left-hander Mark Buehrle hoping to pick up against the Rangers where he left off on May 18 at U.S. Cellular Field. Buerhle worked 7 1/3 scoreless innings in Chicago's 7-0 victory. The Rangers will counter with right-hander Ryan Drese.

South Side Fireworks Man
QUOTE(poorme @ May 28, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) bring up gload dammit. what are they waiting for? It almost makes one wonder if KW is working on some kind of trade and he doesn't want to tip his hand on whom he is planning on cutting until it can be finalized. I thought Gload was already called up from what I heard this morning, but then it was reported the Sox are going with a 24 man roster. The logical thing would have been Gload replacing BMac, then when Frank is ready he would replace Timo. When Duque comes back, Cotts can be optioned down to stretch himself out and be available as an emergency starter. The fact that no move was made to add a twentyfifth man to the roster after BMac was optioned indicates that something is up. Unless of course, they just have no idea what they want to do yet, but that doesn't seem likely.
Balta1701
Maybe KW just saw the weather report & decided to give Gload another day of rest/practice in AAA.

I never thought of that, but that's not a bad idea. As it turns out, they were probably just saving the spot for Frank's return Monday. Balta1701
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ May 28, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) I never thought of that, but that's not a bad idea. As it turns out, they were probably just saving the spot for Frank's return Monday. We were going to be in Texas for 2 days, 1 day if KW read a weather report. Maybe he also wasn't wanting to blow a minor league option on someone who he'd only bring up for a couple of games?
South Side Fireworks Man
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 29, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) Maybe he also wasn't wanting to blow a minor league option on someone who he'd only bring up for a couple of games? If he were to call up Gload, it wouldn't have been for only a couple of games. When Gload comes back up, it's for good. Besides, Gload is not on an option, he's on a rehab assignment.
