kapkomet
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) And actually this is something else I hadn't heard before. An Italian government official wants to drop the Euro Currency and go back to the Lira. http://reuters.myway.com/article/20050603/...LY-EURO-DC.html Whoa. That's pretty big, especially if it takes hold anywhere else.
Rex Kickass
Not as big as you think. This is some dude with a Minister job that isn't of the majority party. With upcoming elections, it has more to do with his name than with them actually leaving the Euro. I wasn't convinced of the survivability of the currency three years ago, but I am today. If Italy left the Euro Zone, its economy would collapse.
southsider2k5
How about the President of the EU from Luxembourg? He thinks the two no votes have weakened the Euro and that it is still overvalued when compared to the dollar http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?t...storyID=8689518
Rex Kickass
The Europeans don't want a Euro this strong. It hurts European economies more.

Rex Kickass
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Then why would the world be switching to the Euro? It's viewed as a more secure currency, less at risk of default because the Central Bank is not running massive deficits and debts.
