Double play is turned and that's not discussed. He was used as a lefty specialist in that situation, did his job and got a DP ball which is his job. Gooch didn't turn it.

And just because Iguchi didn't turn the DP, that doesn't mean it's okay that Marte walked a run in. He needed to at least make the batter put the ball into play. Iguchi blew it and Marte choked.

Marte tried to get him to swing at a slider. The slider was never supposed to hit the strike zone. If he did that, the ball would be in play and probably 2 runs score instead of one. What? You wanted him to give up something down the middle of the plate? It was either going to be a slider low and away or a high fastball. Not his fault.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda. That ball was no where near the zone. With a full count and the bases loaded, he has to throw a pitch that's at least near the strike zone.

Hence, you try to get him to chase. It was a good pitch, but better patience by the hitter. Again, you throw it in the strike zone or anywhere near it and the guy will get a hit and you put yourself in more deep s***.

I just watched Marte's pitch again at WhiteSox.com. It's called "Angels rally in 9th:" if you want to see it again. That ball was no where near the zone. It was so low that Chone Figgins would have to be an idiot to swing at it.

Bet you rowand would have swung at it.

Dye would have swung at it and had a better chance of homering on that pitch than a first pitch fastball down the middle of the plate (since he doesn't swing at those).

I wish we could only play dye against the cubs
