Capn12
Eddies stats are quite good, but to get someone like Guardado, we'd have to give something more than bullpen fodder...even half way through the season. He is signed at a reasonably cheap $4 mill this season, and walks after 2005. If the Mariners don't get a pretty decent offer, they'll just hang on to him and let him walk via FA, take their draft pick. Seattle doesnt want to add anyone that will go towards their payroll after 2005 I'm sure, so it'd have to be a decent minor league talent. Nice name to throw out there though. Steady Eddie has been very solid for quite some time.
DBAHO
I thought he had a $6 million contract for next season as well IIRC?
Wedge
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 06:11 AM) I thought he had a $6 million contract for next season as well IIRC? EDIT: I was completely wrong the first time, here are the contract details: After [2004], the Mariners can pick up Guardado’s option and pay him $6 million. If they decline, he can pick up the player option at $4.5 million or opt for free agency. The same system is in place after [2005], with the Mariners’ option being $7 million and Guardado’s being $4.5 million. DBAHO
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) As far as I can tell, this his last year on his contract. It was a three year deal with the third year a team/player option. The Mariners declined it, but Guardado picked it up. Well if he picked it up, wouldn't he still have next season, since he was signed in the off-season of 2003? (the same year as Latroy Hawkins was signed by the Flubs). beck72
Guardado would have to be considered, esp. with his great control. With both sox lefties Marte and Cotts being erratic at times, he could look nice on the south side [though I don't know what Sea. would want--maybe a young SP [sean Tracey] and bullpen help [Munoz /Diaz/ Baj] a replacement for Bret Boone--[Willie Harris]

They do have 4 lefties in their pen, or they did about a month ago (don't know if they still do).

Not sure what he throws, etc. But if he has good control and eats up LH hitters, why not? Eddie did get his team option declined this yr. If they have cheaper options, and can get good talent they should deal him

CanOfCorn
Is he your set-up guy for Hermanson? Or vice-versa? Would Everyday Eddie demand to be the closer when he got here? If that situation was sorted out before he got here, I would take him.

Would Everyday Eddie demand to be the closer when he got here? If that situation was sorted out before he got here, I would take him. If Guardado had the attitude for being both a set up man and a closer, pitching whenever and where ever the sox needed him [coming in for tie games and for save situations, as co-closers with Dustin] they should try and get him. I'd bet KW would lean on AJ for advice/ insight on Eddie if it came that far.
Balta1701
I think almost anyone here would love to have Everyday Eddie in our pen. That said...I can't see it happening. Last year, the Mariners were even worse than this year, and there were 3 guys that they refused to consider moving: Jamie Moyer, Ichiro, and Everyday Eddie. If they weren't going to move him last year, I have a lot of trouble thinking that they'll move him this year. Although, if we could get him without giving up BMac or another outfielder (do they need a replacement for Reed yet?), then it would probably be a deal that I'd be pretty happy with. Vizcaino hasn't been fooling anyone, from spring training on, esp with that slider on the outside corner. With other teams looking for bullpen help, someone may take a chance on Luis. I think they kept him because they knew they were going to go out and spend some money to try to contend, like they did. Turns out that it blew up in their faces, so maybe they will trade him now. beck72
Looking at last yrs game log, Eddie was shut down for the rest of the yr right after the trade deadline. His last game was July 31st. Like they were shopping him and didn't get any takers. And his last 3 games he got lit up.
