I don't think anybody here anticipated Miguel Olivo being part of any trade discussions.  That was a stunner.

Yeah, the only thing I think we all got right was that most thought Reed or Borchard or both would be involved in the deal. I'll bet if it happens, it's Crede and two prospects not named McCarthy and we pay the contract.

There's another reason I don't want Williams to approve any trade involving McCarthy, and the (probable) transfer of a high percentage of Chavez's contract: we're providing Beane with more financial wiggle room over these next 6 years. I don't want Oakland to take our prospects, in addition to spending availalbe money on acquiring necessary components for their club.  I enjoy watching this Oakland team collapse.  :drink  :cheers

What harm would be done if every general manager just ignored Beane? Didn't take his phone calls; looked the other way when he attempted to unload unwanted contracts. Let him draft his way back to contention. Just let Chavez continue to question the foundation of "moneyball" (aka mulder+hudsonball), and otherwise dissolve the sentiment among management and Chavez. Should make the next 6 years VERY interesting in Oakland.  :headbang

If it gives my team a better chance of winning, I'll do it. I think Chavez gives us a better chance of winning this year(not just the division, but the World Series) and even though he has a BA of around .280, with his power numbers and his defense, he'll be going in the HOF with a Sox uni unless he were to leave.

Yeah, I didnt think Olivo was included, and at first I was pissed that he was. But in hindsight, we raped them on that trade.

Chavez said into today SF Chronicle that he doesnt want to leave Oakland or play for any east coast team and he considers Chicago an east coast team...

SO he wont becoming here

So...you can post that in every thread and it still doesnt mean that its true. A player like Chavez wouldnt come out and say, you know what, I want to be traded and I will go anywhere, someone take me!!!!! :bang

But if he did want to come to Chicago, he would go out and say he didn't want to play in Chicago? With the way Beane spoke about it and Chavez spoke about it, if this trade ever happened (and it was never discussed by BB or KW) they would have no credibility at all. And what kind of character guy would Chavez be if he signed a huge contract and wanted to flee the second things didn't go very well in Oakland. If the team who acquired him stunk it up for 40 games would he try to get himself out of there?

What kind of person is Billy Beane who signed Chavez based on the fact that he said they would be contenders, then traded away virtually every decent player on the team, and ALL of Chavez's closest teammates? Credibility and discussing probable trades are not one in the same. He wants the value for Chavez to stay high, and making him untouchable will make the offers better, got it?

Many of the so called experts thought Oakland would be much better than they have been. They thought the additions of Kendall and Ginter would make the offense better, and thought their young pitching was ready to blossom. One of the reasons they have been so bad is Chavez has been worse than Crede. If he wanted to maximize Chavez's value he would say he would be available if the price is right and start a bidding war for his services. I also believe Chavez, if traded, would have a right to demand a trade at the end of the season. I don't know if he has a no-trade clause or not. Beane did surprise last off season by dealing both Hudson and Mulder. They both struggled a lot last season. It was believed he would deal just one.

How do explain him trading for Kendall?

Hudson was in a walk year, and Mulder (had a terrible second half) has a team option for 2006?

How many years lef t does Chavez have on his contract again?

Are these the same experts that predicted Cleveland and Detroit to be better than us, of the ones who picked the Royals last year? :bang

Actually it was most logical for Beane to trade Zito in the offseason, and that was believed to be his first move, and re-sign the others.
