WilliamTell
RIP George. I don't know if you all saw the Heat/Pistons game, but the Heat won and TNT interviewed Shaq afterwards. Shaq said he'd was thinking about George tonight and he'd like to pay for the funeral. At least that's what I thought I heard.

I watched an Outside the Lines about the Mikan family and they do have money problems, his medicine cost a fortune to keep him alive. Yes, I saw that as well, and I believe Mikan was a huge supporter of getting better pensions for the earlier NBA players. Its a shame that such legends are living like crap while your average NBA player today is far more well off. RIP
SleepyWhiteSox
One great legend speaking about another great legend: Statement From Ray Meyer: “As far as I am concerned, George Mikan was the greatest competitor I ever coached. He came the farthest of any player I’ve ever seen, being an awkward young man into the polished player that was the greatest player of the first half of the 20th century. He got better every time he played and I was a great coach when he was on the floor. I will miss him greatly.” 1999 photo
Steff
Here's the article about Shaq paying for the funeral. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...n.ap/index.html "I'd like to send my condolences to the Mikan family," O'Neal said after Miami beat Detroit 88-76 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals on Thursday night. "I heard they were having some trouble, some problems, so if you contact the Heat office, I would like to pay for the funeral." Classy.. doUrememberwhen
My prayers go out to him and his family. Shaq is da man for what he is doing for them, it's good to see there are still some guys who know and care about who got their respective leagues to where they are today. Again God Bless Mikan as well as Shaq.
