The 7 Inning Game

For the longest time, I have envied any ball club lucky enough to posses the power of the seven inning game. Whether it was the Dotel-Wagner, Mota-Gagne, etc. combo, those teams seemed to have an almost unfair advantage, knowing full well that the ballgame was nearly over after the seventh.

My question to you:

Does Ozzie know he may be sitting on a very similar Pollitte-Hermanson combo?

Although those aren't the sexiest names when discussing relievers, I believe those two have the ability to nail the game down in the eighth and ninth respectively. Both pitchers are pitching about as well as they ever have in their careers, and in many respects, pitching beyond their means--ride the hot hand.

I think for the past few seasons you've been looking at a six inning game in Aneheim with.

Donnely, Shields, Rodriguez. That is just unfair.

And I wish that Ozzie would just stick to Politte in the 8th and Hermanson in the ninth and say f*** matchups. Give your guys defined roles and stick with it.

I'd be much happier if the sox added another stellar arm to the mix, esp from the left side. Esp as these two may cool off. So to answer your question, maybe :D

Absolutely. The Angels were another team that came to mind. However, it's almost a different beast when discussing the Angels; that has to be one of the soundest bullpens in recent memory--they have unreal talent in that pen.

I have envied both the twins and angels for a few years now. Both are always among league leaders in era. The twins are so good this year their third or fourth best reliever could arguably be our best out of the pen. I just think i should say crain = outstanding.

seeing how cotts did tonight he could pitch the 7th and marte could pitch the 6th

BUT COTTS WALKED A BATTER! NOT GOOD ENOUGH COTTS!!! ;)

The other thing is Count or El Duque will be available in the pen too for the playoffs. Right now, I would use Count as the 4th starter in the playoffs and Duque from the pen. But way too much baseball left, and with Duque's playoff magic experience, he might get the nod for 4th pitcher

Playoff Bullpen roles

Count (for 6th/7th)

Marte & Politte (for 7th/8th)

Hermy (9th)

And if it goes to extra innings, then we go with Viz, Shingo, Cotts

We could be looking at a 5-inning game if Cotts keep's his s*** together!

Cotts for 2 innings, Pollitte for the 8th, Hermy for the 9th. Leaves Marte as a lefty LOOGY, and Viz and Shingo as the winning/losing by 5+ guys. Not bad.

Marte>>> cotts and i am not even a cotts hater. Once marte gets hot his ugly peripherals will go away and he will be back to the same old marte. What we have to remember is he is back to throwing that 94-96 mile an hour fast ball... something he lacked part of last year and early on this year. He really does need to work on his control issues though. He is our version of hernandez out of the pen ( at this point anyway).

Lol. Cotts gets hot for a week and people love him. Amazing. Marte a lefty loogy? You have got to be s***ting me. Find me five lefties that are as tough on lefties and

righties out of the pen like marte. I am not talking about a one year example either. Here i will give you a head start... billy wagner.

Heh, that's the way it always is here. Cotts had a great outing for once and now he's the best reliever on the team after Hermanson.

Who said he was the best reliever on the team?

And how is this his only GREAT outing?

The bad thing is that these guys won't be this good all season long, their due for setbacks, that said someone else has to step in. Hopefully Hermanson can still convert pretty much all save chances and if Pollitte or Marte start suckin Cotts can come in. Although if Marte, Hermy, Pollitte can keep up the pace and Viz and Shingo can atleast do ok with the way Cotts is throwing now we could dominate. I still think we need another guy we can give the ball to in a 1 run game.

I recall a time where you liked Kevin Walker.

I recall a time when Cotts' career ERA was 5.49.  Oh wait, it still is!  GMAFB.

You missed the point. I'm saying you've been fooled by a couple scoreless outings as well.
