DBAHO
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) I recall a time when Cotts' career ERA was 5.49. Oh wait, it still is! GMAFB. I recall a time when it's 2.49 below that career ERA. Oh wait that's now. Maybe he's just getting better. And I ask you again Jabroni. Do you still think Kevin Walker has the POTENTIAL to be a better pitcher than Neal Cotts?

beck72
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) The other thing is Count or El Duque will be available in the pen too for the playoffs. Right now, I would use Count as the 4th starter in the playoffs and Duque from the pen. But way too much baseball left, and with Duque's playoff magic experience, he might get the nod for 4th pitcher Playoff Bullpen roles Count (for 6th/7th) Marte & Politte (for 7th/8th) Hermy (9th) And if it goes to extra innings, then we go with Viz, Shingo, Cotts conteras [or Hernandez, whoever the 5th best Starter was at the time] would be the long man in the bullpen, not a short guy. He'd come in before the 6th inning if a starter got into trouble.

beck72
Cotts hasn't shown a lot of consistency. It's not a big news flash. Yet it's good to see him have some success lately. The sox will be a whole lot better if another bullpen arm or two can team with Politte and Hermey to put up a lot of zeroes. Neal looks sharp, seems to be hitting his spots, and opponents aren't getting good AB's off him. Keep it up Neal!
SoxFan1
I still beleive El Duque will be coming out of the bullpen if we make it to the playoffs. Count has pitched very well and you can;t deny him of that, He got unlucky in like 5 starts, so what. El Duque hasn;t been pitching too great lately but has been getting the W's. It's a toss up. qwerty
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) In the playoffs, I'd rather have the wins. He has been getting backed up by the offense and contreras has not. Don't you think if contreras got the same run support as hernandez he would have more than just two wins? He would have at the very least what hernandez ( six wins) if not more than that.

But he also doesn't always last too many innings. That's another reason he gets a lot of no decisions.
Rowand44
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) Marte>>> cotts and i am not even a cotts hater. Once marte gets hot his ugly peripherals will go away and he will be back to the same old marte. What we have to remember is he is back to throwing that 94-96 mile an hour fast ball... something he lacked part of last year and early on this year. He really does need to work on his control issues though. He is our version of hernandez out of the pen ( at this point anyway). I'm probably the biggest Cotts supporter on this site but you're absolutely correct. Damaso has his stuff back and recently his control has been much better. Neal's going to be one of the better relievers on this team there is no doubt about that in my mind, however Damaso is still by far the best lefty we have in the pen. SHAFTR
Here is a possible, although not probable option, trade for Billy Wagner. It gives us a true closer and makes the game at the most a 7 inning game, maybe 6. Edited June 4, 2005 by SHAFTR

If Pierzynski wasn't there to threaten to kick Jose in the balls everytime he walks a guy, his WHIP would be 2.00. GoodAsGould
I have to say Contreras should be our 4th starter... mostly because in the playoffs he would only need to give us 6 innings... most of his trouble seems to come in the 7th.

Duque = 9 starts, 6 wins, 52 innings = 66% winning percentage, 5.78 IP/start Contreras = 11 starts, 2 wins, 66 IP = 18% winning percentage, 6 IP/start No run support is why he is not winning games, not because he does not last long
