A Great Season

What a great season it has been so far. Not just the winning, but the team has satisfied in many different ways. There have been many close nail biting games to keep you on the edge of your seat and entertain you the whole night, plus give you something to talk about until the next one. We’ve had thrill of winning and the agony of defeat.

There have been awards, Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Month. We’ve seen a closer get blown out of his job and a closer with a perfect record. The Manager has looked like a genius one day and like an idiot the next. We’ve seen a 1 hour 38 minute game and 112 pitches in 4 innings. We’ve seen a catcher play 3rd, a 3rd baseman play short, a left fielder play short and a right fielder play 1st. We’ve seen a batter hit and not go to first, and a wild pitch bounce off a wall perfectly to nail a runner.

The manager has taken on the press, the umpires, Wrigley Field and some of his own players. We have seen some errors but not a case I can think of where a player put himself above the team. Good players under performing like Dye and role players over performing like Widger. And now we get to see a Hall of Famer at the plate almost everyday.

There have been so many negative, depressing posts about players and the manager on this board, I’d just like to remind everybody that this has been a great season to date. I get as mad as anyone about some of Ozzie’s moves or players not coming through 100% of the time, but remember that its all part of the game, part of the mix of events that make up a season. Don’t let your anger over a guy obscure the big picture. This team is fun, watching them is fun.

Have some fun too.

The Sox possessing the best record in baseball doesn't grant them immunity.

Currently, they are letting the Twins back in the race for the division, losing serious ground as we approach the break.

Have they been a blast to watch? Yes. Have they offered a whole lot to be excited about? Yes. But, there are many die-hard fans on here that reserve the right to express their disappointments if they wish.

IMO it has one hell of a lot more to do with the Twins playing great baseball lately.

They are an over .600 team, 12 games over break even. Everyone knew Minnesota would be really good and they're proving it. I would love to see the White Sox pull away as much as anyone but the fact is both teams are very good and it will be a battle.

I really enjoyed reading that post TLAK. And you correct of coure, going throught a 162 baseball season, many postives and negatives are going to happen. It wouldn't be baseball if these things did not happen.

Great thread TLAK. Like I have been saying all year, enjoy this, it might not last. Personally I would rather live it up now, vs dwelling on the negative, because even if the negative happens, I still have the happy memories of it. Which to me is worth more than being able to say, I predicted the downfall of the Sox. Who cares? Baseball is meant to be enjoyed.

The whole problem with this season is that despite having the best record in MLB the Twinkees are breathing down our necks just 3.5 gb. It makes a fan feel like they are stalking us. Just waiting for the right moment to pounce. It doesn't help that we have 3/4 of our season series left waiting for August.

It's nice to think that the best record in MLB guarantees you a playoff spot but it doesn't. Not with the NYY's & BOS playing in your league. There's are teams capable of acquiring talent to go on phenomenal winning streaks. So it's hard to ever imagine the WC coming from the ALC. There is some comfort knowing that after two months of the season the NYY's are a 500 club.

But the stalkers from the North make a Sox fan focus on the weaknesses & want to fix them. We don't like stalkers. We like to be playing at a level that puts us in another neighborhood altogether. Right now that looks like our 6/61 3B or last yr's closers. These guys aren't just bad. They are horrible. Shingo's been shelved because he can't throw the frisbee for a strike this year. He's seldom used which means he's just consuming a spot. Crede's ranked 81st amongst starters in the AL. But that's only because of his hot streak that had him hitting over .300 at one time. If you measure it over the last 60AB he's dead last.

I think he means having the best record right now doesn't guarantee you a spot in the future.

Probably but you never know with JUGGERNAUT, he might reel off 4 pages of stats to prove it.

Ya, no doubt the Twins aren't going away. The Sox are going to have to beat them cause the Twins won't beat themselves.

great, great thread.

yeah this season hasn't been perfect, but this is about the best it can get.

We have to enjoy where we're at right now

Yeah sure we can criticize, but don't overly do it.

Don't forget this fact.....we are the best team in baseball right now.

Try and keep that in your head.

Yup, no doubt. The thing is everyone on this site loves this team so much that every loss hurts a ton, everyone just has to learn to keep things in perspective and realize one game or one mistake isn't going to kill this team even though those things hurt to watch for all of us here.
