farmteam
I didn't see one yet, so I thought all the draft talk could go in this thread, so it's all condensed for the mods. If I just missed a thread, this one can be deleted.
DBAHO
From the articles today; Carrillo went on to become the ace of Miami's pitching staff. Bogusevic is the star pitcher at Tulane. Now, three years later, their careers have converged again. Both expect to be picked in the first round of baseball's amateur draft Tuesday. According to Baseball America, Bogusevic and Carrillo are on the White Sox' short list. University of Miami's Cesar Carrillo, whom the White Sox are considering with their first-round pick, pitched 72/3 innings of four-hit ball in a 4-1 win over Mississippi State in an NCAA regional game Saturday night. Carrillo, a Mt. Carmel graduate, struck out five of the first seven batters he faced. Director of player development David Wilder on Saturday watched TCU pitcher Lance Broadway, who pitched a 5-1, complete-game victory over Stanford in Waco, Texas. Chisoxfn
Out of the realistic options, Carillo is the #1 guy I want right now. I rate him ahead of Townsend and barely ahead of Bogusevic. I think Bogu may have a little higher ceiling but at the same time he has a higher tendency to bust. I'm even warming to the idea of Jeff Clement. He really has improved quite a bit defensively and his swing is looking a lot better than it used to. Still, I just have doubts for whatever reason, but there is no doubt he has the physical ability. Of course if someone else slides that could change things, but I highly doubt any major names (not represented by Boras) will slide.

Cerbaho-WG
As always, I'll be sitting in front of my computer for the entire day and posting who the Sox picked, etc. Then after the draft, time for the FutureSox gang and I to start cracking on player bios. Shoot me now.
maggsmaggs
Does Carillo really throw 92-93 and can reach 97? I read that on Baseball America and I just can't believe it with his 165 pound frame. But if it's true, I would definately take him: Sox fan, good command, college pitcher, polished. He could be ready to take over for Contreras in a year or two. Then the rotation would look like: Buerhle, Garland, Garcia, McCarthy and Carillo. Looks good to me.

Guest JimH
The draft starts at 1 pm EST Tuesday, is that correct? Also, what do we know about this Lance Broadway, the guy who Wilder was watching over the weekend? Sheesh, Lance Broadway ... sounds like a porno screen name or something. Sheesh, Lance Broadway ... sounds like a porno screen name or something. 48th ranked prospect by Baseball America. 6-4, 185. 125 K's in 93 IP this year, 30 BB's. 12-1 record, 1.94 ERA. Described as a guy "who succeeds more with polish than overwhelming stuff. His fastball is just average, but he has a plus curveball that he can locate in and out of the strike zone. His delivery and command are solid, and his makeup is a huge asset. He's developing a changeup and is gaining more confidence in that pitch. He has a strong, lean fram and there may be a little more velocity in him." (All, per Baseball America). I bolded the part about his makeup 'cause you know the Sox love a guy with a real good makeup. Highly doubt this guy will be there for the 3rd round pick.

WHarris1
Can someone give me an approx. time of the Sox first pick? How long does a first rounder usually take?

How long does a first rounder usually take? It goes by pretty quickly. Certainly not nearly as long as the NFL draft... I think at most, a pick might take five minutes. It usually flies by, though... AddisonStSox
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) Draft starts tomorrow, and I'll be posting in this thread the picks of the White Sox. Figured as much; I just read it started today, so I was deeply vexed. I'm looking forward to watching this with you guys as this will really be the first time I've ever paid attention to the MLB draft--should be fun. Probably 5-10 minutes after the draft starts. The draft flat out rolls. Its pretty much immediate.
