EvilJester99
QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) Contreras still leads the league in opponents BA, .200. If he keeps his walks down, he could give up 3 runs or less. I say as long as AJ is catching for Contreras he will give up like you said 3 or fewer runs. If he keeps his walks down, he could give up 3 runs or less. That is the key. At Coors you are going to give up the deep ball, you just can't compound it by having guys on base. GoodAsGould
I think Widger should be El Duque's personal catcher and than AJ can catch the other 4 guys... reason is El Duque and Pieryznski dont seem to have the same chemestry as he does with the other pitchers and El Duque likes to call his own game a little. They talked about this in Duque's last start. It sounds like it doesn't matter who his catcher is, he has an idea of what he wants to do, and it is never the same as what the catcher is thinking. Hawk actually talked about then needing to use a signal system when Duque essentially calls his own game in order to speed things along. Wouldn't it be a lot easier for an opposing team to pick up on a signal system coming from the pitcher to catcher than it is the other way around. I would be a bit concerned about that. RockRaines
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) Wouldn't it be a lot easier for an opposing team to pick up on a signal system coming from the pitcher to catcher than it is the other way around. I would be a bit concerned about that. Some times, what happens is the catcher gives an array of signs and then the pitcher wipes to tell the catcher which on in succession the pitcher wants to throw. Basically its a package system with many calls and alot of step off's. When I was a catcher we used this system with a breaking ball guy that we had, because sometimes he felt that hit pitches lost strength when following certain pitches. So you can work out a 5 pitch selection and the depending on his motions, wipes, nods etc he call which one he wants to throw. Sometimes he can tip which pitch he wants to throw before getting set, and then you just work out the location.
