DBAHO
Here we go; Chicago White Sox: Well, I guess the Sox wouldn't make this list if we gave credit for the unsignable players drafted, too. Jordan Danks would give this draft class a big push forward if the Sox gave him enough money to spurn Texas, a move that is not expected to happen. Instead the White Sox will likely close negotiations with Lance Broadway soon, and add another good prospect with a plus curve and average fastball to the fray (say hi, Brandon). Chris Getz, from Michigan, could be effective, but only in the way in which smallish second baseman can be. I agree with many that it is too early to be seriously critiquing draft classes, so please add a grain of salt to my comments. And my rankings, for that matter, as I have simply done a quick-and-dirty estimate of how the fourteen AL teams ranked in their efforts Tuesday and Wednesday: 1. Boston Red Sox 2. Detroit Tigers 3. Cleveland Indians 4. New York Yankees 5. Minnesota Twins 6. Oakland Athletics 7. Kansas City Royals 8. Toronto Blue Jays 9. Texas Rangers 10. Seattle Mariners 11. Los Angeles Angels 12. Chicago White Sox 13. Baltimore Orioles 14. Tampa Bay Devil Rays http://baseballanalysts.com/archives/2005/...ng_team_r_1.php
GoodAsGould
its funny because he starts off with its 2 early to critique drafts but than goes ahead and does it.
Grebeck Fan Club
Analyzing a draft off the cuff makes for good copy. If that writer can say more than two sentences about every prospect drafted, now that would be an accomplishment.
WHarris1
You can't grade drafts before anyone plays in the system. Edited June 10, 2005 by WHarris1
AddisonStSox
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) You can't grade drafts before anyone pleays in the system. Respectfully disagree. Unless, of course, you are only speaking of the MLB draft.

Well yes of course. Seeing as how I have thrown around plenty of NBA and NFL grades. Those you can, MLB you can't.
Palehosefan
These draft grades are mainly off perception. The perception for us is that we drafted alot of unknowns. I can agree with the grade for now, if some of these guys that we know nothing about can impress, then I hope these same publications are giving big props to our scouts later on. danman31
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) You can't grade drafts before anyone plays in the system. You can grade off perceived value as Palehose said. With that said, signing the guys is more important than simply drafting them so I don't think you can even grade on perceived value until everybody is signed. Flash Tizzle
Instead the White Sox will likely close negotiations with Lance Broadway soon, and add another good prospect with a plus curve and average fastball to the fray (say hi, Brandon). Organization philsophy at work. 'Plus' secondary pitches, average fastball would likely describe 95% of our minor league pitchers. These draft rankings should come as no surprise. As Palehose, danman have eluded to, the list is merely a projection of the likelihood pics will succeed. Obviously, Broadway doesn't give the author too much hope. Does anyone else become tired of seeing Oakland and Minnesota atop these lists? Who do they have employed as scouting directors which allows them to continually draft well? I may rip the fundementals of Moneyball, but Beane's people continue to assemble quality draft pics. Our system needs an overhaul.
