Guest JimH
A two strike pitch of some type in the dirt seems to get a lot of our hitters this year. They do seem to take more pitches, which can be both good and bad. On one hand they let a good fastball down the middle go right by them, and then work the count and strike out on a pitch in the dirt. But they make good pitchers throw a lot of pitches which lets us get into the other teams bullpen by the 6th or 7th inning. Last night was pretty distressing though when we have runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs and K three times. I am not a big leagure player, so I am not going to second guess our hitters or the manager, but I am sure waiting to see what happens when the Big Hurt can get back in there at DH full-time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, you are right. It won't hurt when we get the DH back, in the meantime the Sox have to do better situational hitting. Last nite was bad.
Milkman delivers
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 04:47 AM) A simple statement that everyone seems to forget about when discussing trades was the one made by Ozzie where he said he doesn't want to make any changes to this team. As scary as it sounds, I have a feeling that Ozzie is buying into our record as an overall representation of our team's ability. Again, I'm thrilled with our record, but Ozzie and/or KW are nuts if they think this particular team is good enough to compete for the World Series. Fathom, I don't believe Ozzie is as stupid as you or I like to think. He has to see that this bullpen is pretty weak. He would have to be blind not to. The bullpen is very close to being in shambles. Takatsu and Vizcaino still suck, Marte might be hurt, and Hermanson...who knows what's going on there. If none of those guys take a turn for the better, we're looking at two solid guys in the there. Even just three is bad, so two is awful. And about the Crede thing, I think you're right. The past week has let me know that he's going nowhere and I hereby disband the Joe Randa club . God, I really hope KW is working around the clock to get some more bullpen help. Hopefully, he can still get maybe Mercker and ( ) Guardado...and soon. Guardado has a full no trade clause and is throwing with a partially torn rotator cuff, that makes me very very nervous especially since he's got another year left on a big contract. They need an all purpose player who can more than capably sub at several positions, not the least of which is 1B. They have also needed this since mid April. They need an all purpose player who can more than capably sub at several positions, not the least of which is 1B. They have also needed this since mid April. I've known that they needed a bullpen arm, but now the problem is blatantly obvious. And now they might need two. I also agree on the back-up 1B thing, but that should be the easiest of our problems to solve. 1B is the easiest position to fill, didn't someone just release Travis Lee or something? Not saying to get him, but there's an option right there. Right now, I don't even care if KW has to give his left nut to get what we need. I hope he works quickly, though, because a bullpen like this one (as is) can ruin a lead really fast.
southsideirish71
We also need to have our hitters start to shorten their swings up on 2 strikes. Too many times we are watching them with a full long cut trying to park the ball on 0-2. Only to swing at something in the dirt or over their head. Putting the ball in play is a hell of a lot more constructive than K'ing all the time. Look at our hitters strikeout numbers, its terrible. We have a bunch of guys at 40+ and Konerko has 50 already.
