RockRaines
I figured if we were going to talk about last night in a bunch of topics, I would post something positive about the game. I think one of the most important happenings/decisions during the game was Ozzie leaving Contreras in the game after he gave 7 runs. He then settled down and regained his composure and fought through the rest of his outing. I think that the confidence in JC that Ozzie showed last night will have a positive impression on the count. The guy is all talent and he lets his head get in the way sometimes. With Ozzie leaving him out there to mop up his own mess, it allows JC to feel like no matter how he throws the ball, its his game and he doesnt need to worry about getting yanked. Queen Prawn
Neither was I - I was out helping get a car from Minooka to Alsip lol.
tonyho7476
I agree...after taht 2nd inning, you might as well leave him in to a) try and save the bullpen for a meaningful game B) and like you said, give some confidence to the Count...who pitched well after that. If you start to get back in it with the bats, then you make decisions from there and try and win the game any way you can.

Actually, I liked it out there in the corn and soy and whatever the heck else was being grown (rusty cars, etc).
sayitaintso
I was going to go yesterday, but i didn't. I am going to today's game though . With my Scotty Pods jersey on. Edited June 14, 2005 by sayitanitso
Kyyle23
I thought Vizcaino looked really sharp when he came in, except for the double he gave up.

WHarris1
Not only did he give a shot of confidence to Jose but he saved our bullpen from getting taxed.
Kalapse
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) Not only did he give a shot of confidence to Jose but he saved our bullpen from getting taxed. That's what I was thinking during the 2nd inning. Contreras had given up 7 runs in the first two innings and everyone around me at the game was yelling to bring in a new pitcher but that would be just stupid. You leave Contreras in there for at least 5 innnings and save your bullpen for the rest of the series. If you yank Contreras after 1 and 1/3 innnings, you're going to have to use atleast 4 pitchers in that game which was already over. Ozzie made a great decision in leaving him in and saving his bullpen.
WHarris1
Yeah, most of everyone around me wanted him pulled in the 2nd. The worst was this gem... "Jose Contreras sucks and he has sucked all year, I have no idea why they keep him" Me: "Did you know he leads the league in BAA and his ERA was a hair over 3 before tonights game?" "So?" It was unbelievable some of the ignorant s*** I was hearing around me. One guy was ripping the hell out of Frank when he was on deck, saying that he has no power left and we should just trade him for a bag of ball and sure enough first pitch he hits a bomb to straight away center. It was a thing of beauty. Also when Ozzie got Viz up in the bullpen in the 2nd inning the left field corner gave him a standing ovation. They obviously wanted Jose out, I think that shows how ignorant a lot of them are.
whitesoxmanager
jose contreras is sincerely a great man! he took at least 15 minutes to shake hands and sign balls in the outfield on sunday at petco park. how awesome would he be if he showed a little edge on the mound? he truly has been a great surprise thus far! as for the ignorant fans in the stands, i have always said that it is better to have 13,267 real whitesox fans in attendance, they seem to make just as much noise anyway!
