Pinella ripped a three-run triple in the sixth inning before scoring on a double by Danny Sandoval to give his team a 7-1 lead. Ryan Hankins, who finshed with two hits and two RBI, followed with a two-bagger that plated Sandoval. Corwin Malone (2-1) allowed five runs and six hits over 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win for Birmingham, which has won its last four games. Jeff Bajenaru yielded one hit in 1/3 of an inning to earn his first save. Amado German and Dan DeMent ripped back-to-back two-run doubles during a four-run seventh inning for Orlando, which has lost seven straight games. Chairon Isenia and Gabby Martinez each finished with two hits for the Rays, who finished with just seven hits. Jose Veras (0-2) took the loss after surrendering seven runs and nine hits in five innings. West (1-1) scattered five hits and a walk with three strikeouts over six innings for the win. Alvarez singled in a run in the third and singled through the left side to drive in another run in the fifth. Ryan Hankins went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI and Chad Durham scored twice and tripled for Birmingham, which won its fifth consecutive contest. Royce Ring retired the only batter he faced to record his fourth save of the year. Dan DeMent, who collected two RBI in the first game of the doubleheader, drove in a pair of runs in the seventh frame to prevent the shutout.
