Carl Everett this year

Rarely do I start a thread like this, but I felt it was important to comment on Carl Everett after watching him at the game last nite.

So many on this board (and to be fair, other boards too) were disgusted with the White Sox for bringing this guy back and having him on the team for 2005. I recall phrases like "total waste of money", "washed up", "waste of a roster space" and of course the usual "he sucks".

Few realized the enormous pride this guy has and his desire to win. He may be a bit goofy but between the lines he's a force to be reckoned with. He'll never be a Gold Glove OF but last nite he made some excellent plays, including running down a drive into the gap.

In his last at bat in the 9th inning, he battled and battled to get back from an 0-2 count, finally getting his pitch and driving in the 2nd run. This guy is a professional, dangerous hitter and it's his contract year. Personally I feel White Sox management knew the amount of pride Everett has, and knew he'd not only be a good influence but a major contributor as well.

This guy has been worth every penny thus far.

Great post, Jim. Everett's a crazy-ass competitor...and I mean crazy in more ways than one. You just gotta love the guy. I stand by my assessment that Everett has been just as good as Dye in RF, if not better this year.

Didn't Everett, Rowand, and AJ all get their hits with 2 strikes and 2 outs? That's just insane.

I believe that is correct.

In all honesty, I thought Carl was going to have a monster year. He slumped a little, but I can't complain one bit about what we've gotten there. I've said since last season that he was a great insurance policy to have in Franks absense.

Perhaps most importantly, with Frank back in the line-up, he's pushed Timo down far enough on the depth chart that he's almost an afterthought.

Great post, JimH

I agree. He's a decent OF and with the health of Big Frank always questionable, we're definitely going to need this guy the rest of the way. He means business and just wants to win.

Completely agree Jim. In fact, being at the game I was downright impressed with one of the balls Carl got to in the gap. He got a good jump on the ball and showed pretty good range as well. He missed the cutoff man a few times (and no damage was cause by it), but not overly and I'm sure that deals more so with rust.

Plus right now he's really turning on the ball and his batspeed is back after that month where he was cheating every pitch and still wouldn't come close to the hard fastballs.

Great thread Jim. It's so true Carl has been absolutely huge for us this year, he's been the most clutch hitter on the roster this year and he just continues to impress me, I know that's why I loved him in 03 because he comes up with absolutely huge hits. Another thing about Carl is a good solid player like him has not complained at all about essentially becoming a bench player with Frank back(though he'll get plenty ab's).

Carl has been clutch this year. I am getting more comfortable with him in the field after the last couple of right field outings. I love having Dye/Everett in RF and Frank/Everett at DH.

I don't know if anyone came up with this before, but I suggest a nickname for Carl.

Carl has been a god send this year.  Without him realize that someone like Timo Perez and/or Joe Borchard would have been in the starting line up everyday until the last two weeks.  Where would this team be without Carl?

Carl is my favorite psycho

Great post Jim. Carl has came up with countless big hits this year. Without him I don't want to think about how our team would be. With Frank missing the first 2+ months of the season and have Borchard or Perez as our DH would have been a complete DISASTER. IMO Carl is tied with Pods as the 2005 White Sox MVP so far.

Hey Carl you da man!! ----> :notworthy

awesome post jim.

I agree with the comment. It's so good to see guys make positive statements about our Sox players. Carl has been a team player and wants to contribute. I just wisah there was a way to get him in there more and at the same time see the Big Hurt every game as the DH. But, do we think there is a chance that Frank may get a little playing time at 1B. Konerko will need a rest from time to time and it would be a great way to keep rotating Dye, Everett and Thomas around.

Frank should never play 1B again, ever.

And Everett helped us again today, and not just by hitting. By Everett DHing today, we were able to PH Frank in the bottom of the 8th to walk, be pinch run for, and have that runner scoring the tying run. It's all very intricate.

I'll admit...whenever there is b****ing about Carl playing the OF, I'm usually behind it. But Carl has done a helluva job in RF when he plays there, tracking balls in the gaps that I thought were sure hits. He has been, if not a bit better than Dye out there when he is asked to play the field.

Just don't put him in CF please Ozzie.
