ESPN v. White Sox

1) Jeff Brantley (I think) from ESPN berrates Ozzie for his use of his bullpen during a game in which the White Sox lose.

As did almost everyone in the game thread. Oz f***ed that up.

3) They make a huge deal about "Umpire Mistakes" only after the game in which they televised involved an umpire mistake which let Scott Podsednik safely into first base.

Having a game on national tv and something like that happening, all links together. I really doubt they had a meeting and decided because it's the Sox, they would run that special. They are just trying to put on good shows. And have a lot of hours to fill.

4) They have the Washington Nationals as the number one team in the power rankings (eastern team), compared to two central teams that have the top records in baseball (White Sox/ Cardinals)

Recent play vs. season long. Once you know what they are trying to judge it all makes sense.

5) During Sunday night's game on ESPN, though the White Sox were the team being televised, they had a special about some country singer and his love for the LA Dodgers, whom the Sox were playing, and then a 5-minute documentary on the CUBS! THE CUBS?? WHAT THE HELL??

I love Toby Keith. Great artist. He's also on the wrong side of the Red River Rivalry. He's a huge Oklahoma fan  They also interviewed Wayne Gretsky who was wearing a Sox jersey and recalled how he loved to follow the Sox's minor league affiliate in Edmonton. Should they ignore the other team? This is a national telecast.

All good picks. I wouldn't have an argument with any of those three. I just hope they limit the pitches and get everyone some work.

Understood, but thats not going to be the case.  We are the team that people love to hate.  We are the fans that get no respect.  We are the team that is going to have to prove we are good.  And thats fine, no coverage is better than what they are doing now.  The cubs will be the loveable team until they blow up even more than they are now.  When they flop, and the fans start bailing, then you will see an interest.  We are the best team in baseball, nobody likes us because of that.  f*** em

Right on.

You know. Some good points about ESPN's bias have been made here. I just want to throw this out there:

On a show like 60 minutes or Dateline they leave the "most wanted" stuff until the end to keep their viewership up the entire hour. Wouldn't it make sense for ESPN to lead with the Devil Rays and keep all those Yankee, Red Sox and Cub fans watching until later in the hour? If they show them first, as they do, wouldn't they stand to lose a lot of those viewers?

Just read a blurb in the paper about some 50 cities in 50 days thing that ESPN is doing. Guess who's ballpark they will be at when they come to Chicago?

Best team in baseball right???....WRONG. They set it up so they come here August 22. The sox off day and so they will be broadcating from Urine Field. This has got to be the biggest slap in the face. I normally don't get in to the media bias junk so much,(at least not with sports) but this is a f***in crock!!

'SportsCenter' will go 50-50

Are we there yet?

ESPN is going on one long road trip this summer when it takes "SportsCenter'' on a cross-country tour. Billed as "'SportsCenter' Across America,'' the show will be broadcast from 50 states in 50 days starting July 17, when the 10 p.m. edition will originate from Fenway Park after the Yankees-Red Sox game.

The show will stop at a sporting event in a different state each day until the final one is broadcast Sept. 4. The segments will include reports on each state's contribution to the national sports scene, as well as other features.

"This gives us the chance to get a little closer to our fans, and it's a small way to say thanks because ESPN would not be what it is today without support from all 50 states,'' said Chris Berman, one of the hosts. "So, just like the U.S. Senate, every state is represented equally on this tour.''

The tour will stop in Chicago on Aug. 22 for a Cubs game against the Atlanta Braves, which probably will send a few White Sox fans looking for their barf bags.

He could be 2 sections away and still be near you.

I'm not one to defend ESPN.. but this was planned at the start of the season when no one knew the Sox would be this good. I'm not shocked they planned on being at Wrigley.. they do something there every year.

Ahhhh I didn't know that. Yeah I would NEVER expect them to pick the sox over the cubs at the start of the season. I thought this was just set up recently....

Can I still hate them???

All that matters right now is winning the division. Don't worry about what commentators are saying or anyone in the press. ESPN does a decent job with highlights, but you also have to remember that they are based in Bristol, smack dab between Boston and New York and while the anchors and reporters are from all over the country, the producers and assistant producers and production assistants that watch the games are probably primarily from the east coast. I would guess from DC on up.

And as for the Nationals, the fact that this is the former Youppi!'s, it is a big story.
