chisoxtime Posted June 22, 2005 Share Posted June 22, 2005 Its important that we solidify our pitching staff for the playoff run and hopefully the playoffs. I would like to see a trade for Zito, and move El Duque to the pen for spot start and long relief. El Duque is a quality playoff pitcher, and having him on the roster at playoff time is an absolute bonus. I think Zito can be had for a quality prospect and a mid level prospect. His stats this year are not too good, but he is on a s***ty team. He still has one of the best if not the best curve balls from the left side in the game. What are your thoughts? Kalapse Posted June 22, 2005 Share Posted June 22, 2005 Why would we want to give up good prospects such as Anderson, McCarthy, Tracey or Sweeney for a guy like Zito who sucks. It's been a while now since he's been good, hell he sucked last year on a good team and with the other two of the big three in the rotation at the same time. Started pretty rough in April (6.60 ERA) but has pitched well the last two months: May- 3.49 ERA, .219 BAA June- 4.13 ERA, .216 BAA There's also been a couple of games where he cruised through 6 innings (against us and Philly) and got hammered in the 7th. Yes, it's been a few years since he won it, but he's going to use that to get more. For lack of a better term, Beane is going to get an ass-load of talent for Barry Zito. Could be had for a package that wouldn't involve our "major" prospects. J.P Riccardi would be interested in college pitching like Tyler Lumsden and Ray Liotta for example. His bullpen hasn't helped him much either. Zito had another strong outing tonight: 7.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K (115 PT - 69 ST). Bullpen blew the lead in the 9th.
