Yossarian
Give it a rest. Let him finish his career as a White Sox manager, then let the judgment of history begin.
Southside hitmen
I think its great that Ozzie is finally shown some respect on this site. think its little early to call him the best manager of all time. Keep it going Sox
sayitaintso
Kid Gleason because he was manager for our last world series winning team. Edited June 22, 2005 by sayitaintso
nvxplorer
Chuck Tanner was an excellent manager. I remember when they hired him. He turned a god awful team into a winner, and he was able to tame Dick Allen.
bjm676
Tony LaRussa would have been the best Sox manager ever. If he and Hawk had gotten along, and Hawk didn't fire him, he'd be the best. Oh, what could have been with LaRussa. Anyway, I'd say Al Lopez or Kid Gleason -- both pennant winning Mgrs.
Rohan
I don't think Ozzie's the best ever.. But he hasn't even been here for two full years yet... Let's see what he can do...
Leonard Zelig
QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) Larussa should have won more with the talent he had on his ballclub... Lopez was a loser anyone who doesnt put his own player in the HOF shouldn't even be consider.. If Mags and Frank didnt get hurt last and he had a decent 5th starter last year team would won over 90 games It looks like this season we might win over 100 games What does this mean? How can a manager put a player in the HOF?
Southside hitmen
Al Lopez didnt vote for Nellie Fox to get into the HOF.
Jake
QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Name me another Sox mgr that has been better than Ozzie Jerry Manuel, manager of the year!!! If ozzie wins us a WS, I'll say he's the best.
MinnySoxFan
QUOTE(moochpuppy @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Tony LaRussa Chuck Tanner Al Lopez Kid Gleason Pants Rowland At this point I'll say Gene Lamont is still a better manager. No love for Jeff Torborg? It's obviously a ridiculous stament that could end up being true but is impossible to say right now as far as Ozzie goes. I loved him as a player, and I think that while a lot of things he does are f'd up, they're f'd up in a way that seems to be working and may have an oddly sweet kind of wierd rhythym to it. I don't know. He may just have built up enough good karma over his lifetime that it's all coming back to him this year. Either that or the Devil is going to start asking Ozzie to start paying off that debt he owes him. Hopefully that's not until after the season though. greg775
I think Oz is great because of the intangibles. The players seem to like him and he's damn likeable. He may make some bad decisions, but what managers don't? I say we're 30 games over .500 partly because of the attitude he brings. Isn't that a big part of managing? The big picture? You can see Mark B. loves Oz when he comes out to the mound, etc.
whitesoxmanager
Personally I thought that Jeff Torborg was absolutely awesome as SOX manager....I was very sad to see him leave for NY. That guy did an awesome pre & post game show, managed very well, and had every guys heart & back! He really managed the best in my years... For what its worth OZ has done an A+ job this year...I am extremely surprised with the outcome thus far...!
Capn12
Minus some mismanaging of the bullpen, Oz has been very solid. But he does tend to play into those righty/righty and lefty/lefty matchups too much sometimes. Sometimes a guy is in a groove out there, and Oz makes bad bullpen decisions, overworking the pen arms. YASNY
Let me say that Ozzie has done a wonderful job this year. However, anyone that thinks he is the greatest Sox manager of all time is either: A. A kid, that has no historical perspective whatsoever. B. Just got off the short bus. C. or Both A and B.

There were so many people saying that about Jerry Manuel in the early part of this century.
