whitesoxmanager
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) Contreras has to be TOLD to work the forkball off the fastball vs. the other way around. And he needs to work faster. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> isn't AJ calling the game?
Frank the Tank 35
Could we maybe trade for a new 3rd base coach? One with spacial perception?

qwerty
Sorry jim i walked away for a few minutes. Two straight forkballs when they have patterson 0-2? Nice diving play by iguchi to stop the run from scoring. Two outs with perez up man on third.
Guest JimH
isn't AJ calling the game? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I suspect he is but something is missing. I don't know if it's the game calling or Contreras doing his own thing, or Contreras just missing on location. But he throws way way way too many split finger pitches. DonkeyKongerko
And he gets out of it. I wouldn't say he pitched out of it, more like Gooch fielded out of it.

qwerty
QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) isn't AJ calling the game? Contreras doesn't always listen. He wouldn't listen at all when we traded for him last year. This year is seems like they got into his head to only use the splitter as an out pitch. But the last 3-4 starts he has been overusing it and it has not had the same bite on it.

Guest JimH
Ok, maybe a momentum turner there. At least I hope so. Damn, giving Maddux a 4 run lead is not the right way to go. Anyways ... get after 'em.

fathom
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) I suspect he is but something is missing. I don't know if it's the game calling or Contreras doing his own thing, or Contreras just missing on location. But he throws way way way too many split finger pitches. From my point of view, Contreras has a very hittable fastball. His command is quite poor on the fastball, so it's hard for AJP to expect him to be able to throw it past a hitter up in the zone. Contreras's strikeout pitch is definitely his forkball.
SAVVY18
With this team, I don't feel like we are out of it at all. We can put up a 4 spot in a hurry or chip away and next thing you know we are in the lead.

He loves that split finger pitch, and it seems he's screwed up on the release point. You have got to attack hitters, quit this damned nibbling around stuff. The only time he really goes after a hitter is when the bases are loaded. They sit on his fastball and then we have a problem. Sometimes a pitcher will get beat, but don't beat yourself. He seems to do it a lot.
