SnB
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) U didn't put it very bluntly, lol. All I'm saying is it would;ve been nice to beat them with authority this year. Of all years you think this would have been the time. If all you want is bragging rights, you've got your priorities messed up.
upnorthsox
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 06:24 PM) Let me ask you a question. What would you yourself rather see. Us go 6-0 against the Cubs....... .....or us make it into the playoffs, with no guarantee how far we go..... Are you saying that by losing to the Cubs we now are in the playoffs? Finkelstein
QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) Are you saying that by losing to the Cubs we now are in the playoffs? No, what he is saying is that this series would have been great to win, but you have to keep your eye on the prize. We don't get any rings by beating the Cubs, unless it is in October. TheBigHurt
Jeez, I don't want bragging rights, dammit, I just want to see the Sox sweep a series and win 2 series against the cubs, that's all, it doesn't mean we would have to suffer in the playoffs. And come on, you all know you want exactly what I want! LMAO.

MinnySoxFan
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) You know, I was thinking, with the year the Sox have had so far, they would finally be able to do 2 things: 1. Finally beat the Cubs in BOTH series. 1. Finally sweep the Cubs in at least one of the series. Neither of those things happened, and I'm quite shocked they didn't. Both Maddux and Prior were on the mound for only 6 innings, and yet we still didn't pull anything off after that. When Carl hit into that double play yesterday, I'm sitting there going "I don't f***ing believe THIS........" You don't belive THIS or you don't BELIEVE this? S720
You know when I was first reading this MELTDOWN thread, I was kind of feeling very down. However, after looking at the current standing, I just burst out laughing at my worry and at how much all of us have been spoiled by the Sox's terrific season so far. Man, we are still 9 1/2 games up on the Twins, and the Cubs are still trailing the Cardinals by 8 1/2 games. We are 26 games above .500 and the Cubs 2! What the heck are we worrying about? Ego, pride 'cause we lost this past series to the Cubs? I take the playoff and the eventual WS participation over the winning Cubs series anytime. CHEER UP EVERYONE
Dam8610
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Okay, I think I'll inject some logic into this venting. As of today, the Sox are 50-24, STILL the best team in baseball, and 9.5 games up on the Twins. 74 games into the season, the Sox are on pace to go 109-53. However, let's say the Sox fall into mediocrity for the remainder of the season. They play .500 ball for the remaining 88 games, going 44-44. That would produce a record of 94-68. Meanwhile, the Twins are 40-33, 7 games over .500 through 73 games. At their current pace, they will finish the season 89-73. However, let's say the Twins suddenly catch fire and go 53-36, 17 games over .500 in those 89 games. That would make them 93-69 on the season, one game worse than the Sox record if they only play .500 ball from this point on. My point? The Twins have a LOT of ground to make up if they want to catch the Sox, and they'd have to count on the Sox for some help too. If a race can be over in June, then both Central division races are. Gene Honda Civic
20 straight scoreless innings for the Sox. 22 since 'smallball' has produced a run.
