AAP: Nick Lemon

Recommended Posts

Nick Lemon was a waste of an 8th round pick in the 2004 first-year player draft.

In his final year at the baseball powerhouse that is BYU, he posted a 6.32 ERA with a robust 50:43 BB/K ratio.

He followed that spectacular performance with a 7.88 ERA, 31:25 BB/K ratio, effort at Bristol of the Appalachian League.

This season, he 'earned' a promotion to Great Falls of the Pioneer League, where he has posted a 13.50 ERA with a 3:1 BB/K ratio, albeit in 1.1IP.

The scouting reports on Lemon when he was drafted said that he possessed a 98 MPH heater, but he had about as much control as an incontinent old man who just drank three pitchers of prune juice. According to the stats available on baseball Cube, he threw an amazing 32 Wild Pitches in 61 combined innings pitched this season.

I don't know what happened, but Lemon accidentally found some decent control recently. He has actually become a useful part of the GF Sox bullpen. In fact, he leads the team in appearences.

Currently Nick has a 4.19 ERA in 19.1 IP. He's allowed only 12 hits, while striking out 19 and walking 9. To top it all off, he hasn't thrown a WP or hit a batter in well over a month. If it wasn't for his age and league, he'd almost resemble a real prospect.

In the 20 days since the last post on Nick, he's compiled 12.1 IP with a 1.46 ERA over that span. He allowed 12 hits while only walking 3!!! His h/9 is up while his BB/9 is down, that's a good sign that he's putting the ball over the plate more often.
