DBAHO
Speaking of Ice Hockey, we drove past the new Glendale Ice Hockey Arena and the new football stadium the Cardinals are building, and both look impressive as hell, although the Ice Hockey Stadium almost looks puny compared to the other one. But uh yes back on topic, Roenick is an idiot. Nice to see the overpaid stars like him and Jagr really appease themselves even more to the fans. southsider2k5
"If people are going to sit and chastise pro athletes for being cocky, they need to look at one thing and that's the deal we're going to be signing in about three weeks,'' Roenick said. "Pro athletes are not cocky. Pro athletes care about the game. Everybody out there who calls us spoiled because we play a game, they can kiss my a--. "I will say personally, to everybody who calls us spoiled, you guys are just jealous. We're trying to get this thing back on the ice and make it better for the fans. If you don't realize that, then don't come. We don't want you in the rink, we don't want you in the stadium, we don't want you to watch hockey.'' Not a problem Jeremy. I'll make sure to give your salary to athletes who actually want me in their stadium... :fyou
CanOfCorn
Dear Jeremy Roenick, When you go to work everyday, 8 hours a day, and make less than 6 figures, then, maybe, I'll listen to what you have to say. But when most of your fans can't afford tickets because of salaries that you and your constituents in your union demand, and owners continue to pay, I find it laughable that you dare to chastise them. You were one of my favorite players, but by spewing this ridiculous tirade, that, by the way, solidifies the point you were trying to refute, I have lost all respect for you. Pulling the jersey over your head, Matt PS. Don't ever talk to me like that again when you voluntarily don't do your job for any length of time. kapkomet
I know what he was trying to say, but he's an asswad for even commenting on this. Him and Brett Hull both can go hang off a few people's nutsack.
soxhawks
he is mad that the players association didnt take the first deal, and is pissed off at all the people who are saying hockey is dead. i have to agree with him on the most part because as a hockey fan we don't need the people who rip on hockey to come back to it when it returns to greatness, hopefully. Who are you kidding? You need all the fans you can get. Your sport is comatose. If you don't realize that Roenick was an idiot for making those ill advised comments then all those empty seats that will surround you at your next NHL game will be proof. Hate to break it to you, but hockey IS near dead. Hockey on ESPN draws a smaller crowd than womans basketball...let me say that again...womans basketball. When it does come back, who's going to broadcast games? ESPN says they don't want it, ABC doesn't want it. who? And before the lockout, I can't remember the last time I was at a sold out arena (i'm a sabres fan but I go to the occasional stars game here). What few fans the sport has, are being run off with greed and arrogance because of this lock out. Being the hockey fanatic that I am, hope that the sport can recover from this move. I love hockey, but there is no denying the sport is in deep deep trouble.
Kalapse
Seeing how I don't give a s*** about Hockey my opinion of JR is 180s different from the rest of you. I love it when you goes on his tangents and gets everyone all pissed off. An athlete telling it exactly as he sees it is great thing in my mind but I guess that's just because I'm not a hockey fan so I'm not affended by his comments. soxhawks
hockey can and will recover once the league gets competitive once again the fans will come back, hockey is still better than basketball. the biggest problem with hockey is the expansion teams, they should get rid of carolina, nashville, florida, anaheim, atlanta, and phoenix to name a few. you knew there was something wrong when winnepeg moved to phoenix. Sure, the NHL might have better ratings than the WNBA (if one of them somehow gets on TV). But none of that means they'll be successful at all. The NHL is done and everyone might as well just accept it.

CWSGuy406
QUOTE(Stephen @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) Same here. I don't see how anyone can watch basketball. Boring doesn't even say it. Went to one NBA game a couple of years ago and walked out at the half. I agree. I can watch certain teams -- the Bulls, for example, were really fun to watch this year, and the NBA Finals were good as hell. But, other than that, the NBA is boring. To me, at least, and I know most people will disagree. But, there's no comparison between playoff hockey and playoff basketball. Playoff hockey is so friggin' exciting, even if I'm not a fan of either team. To increase the fanbase, when it comes back, they gotta crack down on all of the guys who are clutching and holding. Obstruction, I believe it's called (I'm not so great with the penalty terms). They also gotta crack down on all the stickwork. People say that the NHL needs to rid itself of fighting, yet, I can't remember seeing someone being severely injured in a fight. All of the severe injuries come from cheapshots, ala the Burtuzzi shot -- that wasn't a fight, that was a bulls*** cheapshot. I'd also like to see the redline removed from the two-line pass -- as well as the smaller goalie pads. They need to get a deal done. Losing another season would really be a downer, as the 'Hawks finally have a plan and have stuck it out -- Bell, Calder, Arny, and Ruutu are going to be the base of this team, and they're going to let them go through their growing pains. Rex Hudler
If we would have signed that deal in February, in terms of what we're getting now, we would have looked like heroes,'' Roenick said. "Right now we look like a bunch of idiots. The deal in February beats the (expletive) out of the deal we're gonna sign in July.'' Roenick did admit players were not active enough in the negotiating process when there was a chance to salvage the season. "It's unfortunate we had to go through a whole year to realize the s--- that was going on,'' Roenick said. "We've hurt our league, we've hurt the reputation of our league and the integrity of our league by sticking up for something that might not have been the right thing to do.'' Sounds like he was bashing fans for the same exact things he is b****ing about. If he can admit that they hurt the league, its reputation and integrity, then why the hell should he not expect fans to be pissed? That was an idiotic statement.
