Balta1701
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) That makes no sense at all. I think that is just Ozzie's way of keeping Timo around as long as possible. The Sox desperately need a backup first baseman to give Konerko some days off. They don't need another outfielder and Gload is an excellent first baseman and a bad outfielder. As soon as Gload is ready to play 1B and swing the bat without shoulder pain, he should take Timo's spot on the roster. The Sox do definately need someone to give Paulie a breather. But here's the thing...last time Gload was close to ready, they were holding him in AAA until he could throw, and while playing 1B, he hurt his arm again on a routine throw. Bring him back up here in a rush and he'll end up on the DL again.

But he did get "randomly injured" when making a throw from first base a few weeks ago. If you rush him back there's a good chance he could reinjure his shoulder. knightni
Yet another thread of fun about Timo/Willie. Anyone else want to join my club?
TheHammer
Konerko doesn't need a rest. Why would a first baseman ever need a rest? He isn't going to tire out. Pretty much any non catcher could play every game if they are healthy. A day off once in a while is more to get the backup some playing time than it is to actually rest the starter. Controlled Chaos
Well the main reason IMO is Willie's speed. If Gload is back and PK gets a hit in the 8th inning of a close game....we can pinch run Willie. This should have been done on numerous occasions already. Hopefully it was cause Ozzie didn't trust Timo or Ozuna to play first after taking PK out. We will see when Gload comes back if OZ makes the right call in those situations. Finkelstein
I completely agreee that Willie >>> Timo and should be kept once Gload comes back, but didn't the Sox pretty much say that Willie was on borrowed time when Gload was re-injured last time? Or was that something that the media came up with?
Be Good
QUOTE(wdson01 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 07:17 PM) well.. with ross' injury to his shoulder he isnt able to play OF yet, so it would be either 1B for 2B or 1B for OF I'll take 1B for OF Willie can play the Infield and outfield. Of course we want Willie playing 2B most of the time. Since he has concerns elsewhere defensly.

I need a day off, you need a day off. 1B is the easiest position to play. PK had a day off today. Konerko should be playing everyday we need his bat. Gload should be PH and maybe getting a start every now and then at DH or 1B just to keep him happy.

Jabroni
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...ack=1&cset=true First baseman-outfielder Ross Gload started his second minor-league rehab assignment for Triple-A Charlotte, playing first base and getting two hits in his first three at-bats Tuesday night against Pawtucket. We need the Choad!
Capn12
Simple fact is...OMIT has options left. He rarely plays anymore. Willie brings alot more versatility to the club. So therefore, KW will probably keep OMIT But I'm pretty sure 95% of us want Willie here and OMIT gone. Time shall show us. Also, lets make sure Gload actually stays healthy enough to come join the big team again.
Jabroni
http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-doug29.html ALMOST READY: First baseman/outfielder Ross Gload, who has been on the disabled list since April 25 with inflammation in his left shoulder, might be close to returning. ''We need him,'' Guillen said. ''We need a first baseman to give [Paul Konerko] a couple of days off, especially with this [hot] weather coming up. As soon as he's ready, he will fit in. "The thing is, we have to find a spot to fit him in. That's my job and [general manager Ken Williams'] job, how to get him to fit in. When he's ready, he's going to be back here.'' Guest JimH
I noticed that too ... the part about when Gload is ready, he's back on the team. That is perfectly fine by me, they need a backup 1B. Even if it's not to give Konerko a whole day off, if there's a blowout, get him outta there for a few innings. It makes a difference in this hot weather. Obviously they will have to move a guy off the roster but a 2-1 trade would create an opening also.
