Indiana To Play Duke In Big Ten/ACC Challenge

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Two of college basketball’s tradition-rich programs will meet in the seventh annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge when Indiana hosts the Duke Blue Devils on Nov. 30, 2005 at 9 p.m. ET (8 p.m. CT). The game, which marks the first time the ACC powerhouse will play on Branch McCracken Court at Assembly Hall, will be televised nationally on ESPN.

“I think our players and coaches are looking forward to this game against Duke,” Indiana head coach Mike Davis said. “Duke is consistently one of the top teams in the country and it will be a good barometer of where we are at as a team early in the season.”

IU and Duke have met on five previous occasions, with the Hoosiers holding a 3-2 advantage in the series, including winning two straight contests. The last time the two perennial powers met on the hardwood came March 21, 2002 in the NCAA Sweet 16 in Lexington, Ky. In one of the more memorable NCAA Tournament games in school history, the Hoosiers took a 74-73 come-from-behind victory over the Blue Devils.

In all, the two schools have combined for eight national championships. The Hoosiers rank third all-time with five national titles, while the Blue Devils rank fifth with three. The contest also marks the fifth consecutive year that Indiana's Challenge opponent was ranked among the Top 25 the previous season. Additionally, the Hoosiers have played the defending ACC regular season champion three of those five years.

Since 2000, the two conferences have combined to make 13 Final Four appearances and captured four of the last six NCAA Championships. In addition, the ACC and Big Ten rank either first or second in all-time NCAA Tournament bids, victories and Final Four appearances.

Can you guys post Indiana's possible/probably starting lineup next year? I know that will be an awesome game and one of the few chances Duke will have of losing next year. Duke will be absolutely stacked next year but Indiana is one of the few teams that could play with Duke down low.

Strickland's definitely done at the point. He's just so much better off the ball. He had his best games when Bracey was sidelined, and he was the 2 guard.

I don't read a whole lot of Peegs and what not with a lot of the crappola the message board is filled with, but from what I have read, Monroe is a real PG. Something the Hoosiers haven't had in a while, he's solid with the ball and doesn't have many turnovers at all. He'll really fit in to this up-tempo game IU is looking to play with this lineup. That JUCO guard Calloway will have push Monroe for the PG spot a little bit too.

Monroe and Killingsworth both came from Auburn after Cliff Ellis was fired. Monroe is not flashy, but a "get the job done" type. I don't remember a lot about his shooting ability, but I do not that he got some recognition around the SEC as a junior.

Killingsworth is the real deal. When I saw Auburn play live twice two years ago, Killingsworth is the guy that stood out, often times as the best player on either team. Killingsworth is a wide body (about 6'7 or 6'8) with a soft left handed shooting touch. He will mix it up inside and rebounds very well. he can also play with his back to the basket. From 15 feet in, he is very productive offensively.

I just don't remember as many details about Monroe as I do Killingsworth, who stood out big time. Hopefully, Monroe can handle the point in a workmanlike manner and feed the ball inside.

I'll be very interested to see this game, should be a good one. You'll sure have your hands full Greasy, but it will be a good game.

IU has some potential this year, that's for sure. I still don't believe in Davis, but that's just me. I want to see if this team really is different without Bracey, like many of you have been saying.

I'm probably too optimistic when it comes to my teams and who's representing them, but this is it for Davis. This is finally the team we've been hearing so much about; if they don't make at least the round of Sweet 16, he's as good as gone in my book and most likely the university's.

Wright being in the NBA is just being going to be good on several levels for this team. It'll be healthy for the offense IMO, and the chemistry will be a lot more solid too.

What, you mean 25 ft 3 pointers off Bracey's back foot aren't beneficial to the offense? s***.

I'll definitely be there.

I still can't believe he got drafted. But I guess he does shoot like an NBA player already.
