AirScott
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) Retired numbers should be reserved for HOF'ers, IMHO. Hall of Famers, lifers (like Barry Larkin and Frank Thomas), or players that were an integral piece in championships.
MurcieOne
I have a feeling that number 56 could be retired someday...
greasywheels121
QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) I have a feeling that number 56 could be retired someday... I sure hope so. That would mean he'd be here for an extended amount of time, beyond this current contract.
RibbieRubarb
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 08:12 AM) They didn't have numbers then. The mid 20's Yankees were the first to have numbers on their backs, and even then the number on their backs were corresponded to their spot in the batting order. And that's why, kids, Babe Ruth was number 3... So endeth the lesson

Texsox
I don't think HoF and retired numbers go hand in hand. Seaver toiled on the south side for a couple seasons, but wasn't a "White Sox". A retired number should be more than just playing well, it should reflect someone who is clearly a Sox guy. In that respect, if Fisk had spent less time in Chicago, I could see not retiring his number. To this day, most baseball fans think of him as a Red Sox. Frank, should have his number retired immediately after playing his last game. Let's not have a repeat of Baines where his number was retired before he finished playing and even came back for a cup of coffee with the Sox. drowninginflame
Santo's number is retired and he isn't a HOFer Ventura's number would be awesome
SoxFan1
They should put a shrine or monument like the Yankee's have for great players. I could definitely see them with: Carlton Fisk Luis Aparicio Chico Carrasquel Ozzie Guillen Harold Baines Bill Melton Minnie Minoso Eddie Collins Joe Jackson Doc White Ed Walsh Eddie Cicotte Red Faber Early Wynn Ted Lyons Billy Pierce Joel Horlen La Marr Hoyt Robin Ventura Tim Raines Jack McDowell Bobby Thigpen
