RockRaines
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) All I have to say is KC in 03... And their record after 81 games was???? For trying to be a guy who backs up arguments, that was a pretty s***ty one. As far as picking up a starting pitcher, im not sure where KW is going with it, but I cant seem to think of one that makes feasible sense when it comes to the way he thinks. Word has it that KW was looking for some bullpen help and has his eye on Mesa and Baez, I dont like either so I hope that wasnt true. If it is starting pitching he is looking for, im still not against Zito, Clemens, or Schmidt.
AnthraxFan93
In 2003 KC was 43-38 after 81 games. The Sox can play .500 or even play at a lesser winning percentage then what they are play at now, and still make the playoffs. How's that for your "It's how you finish" bulls***? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :banghead As always you miss the simple points..

He finshed with a strong second half, and helped his team get to the playoffs. What am I missing here? Anthrax, I thought I was the most negative person on this board (but very solid Sox fan) but you make me look like a pussy. Excuse me while I adjust my dress. We still have # 5 starter issues since OH can't stay healthy, we have Garland and Marky playing their asses off, and Freddy showing signs of his former self. ZoomSlowik
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Well you wanted to give me the numbers on Lowe, I will give you the guy he would have replaced.. Lowe wouldn't have replaced McCarthy, he would have replaced El Duque, the guy who's record is 7-2. Lowe has a 3.96 ERA with a bad WHIP and BAA in an extreme pitcher's park in the NL, and cost $4-$5 mil (not sure on exact numbers) more with a longer commitment. If we had signed Lowe, odds are we wouldn't have A.J. or Iguchi since that money would be commited to a rather mediocre starter. You keep b****ing about the money spent, but our payroll is $75 million even though our attendance is middle of the pack (and that is inflated by some half price nights). It took Garland 5 years to put it together. He has just over a year of seasoning. Give him time. We all want a World Series victory. But, instead of yapping about how we should've signed this guy and that guy, unless you have some sort of device to tell you what could have happened in your alternate reality, just shut the hell up and enjoy this awesome year the Sox are having. I mean, cripes, if we signed the people you wanted to sign, we MAY NOT be in first place with the best record in baseball, could you at least agree to that? It is possible that you are wrong, isn't it?

Or Lowe's numbers would be better with the better defense behind him? I am happy we have the best record in baseball, but so did the Mariners in 01, they keep things as is.. and lost in the playoffs.. I know we get into the playoffs its how we do there is what I am more worried about. Gettting in is the easy part its playing like you belong that is the hard part. Well, Lowe has crappy stats in a pitchers park, so saying he would improve in a hitters park is a stretch, not to mention he pitches against weaker opponents in the NL West. As far as Cabrera goes...come on dont go there again. With your two salaries say bye bye to AJ, Iguchi. Anthrax I am realist also, we will continue to have a #5 issue all year. I personally think El Duque will be injured all year, on and off. Contraras is risky, but I also believe KW will get another pitcher. In addition i think we need to shore the bullpen get another reliever and get another infielder. Thats how Realistic I am. I don't believe with the team we have now that we can win the world series. But I love this team, its a great team so far, and they keep plugging away. They have something this year and although you don't like KW he will add to this team. Its our year. Right now.
