I realize his fastball was just average, but all I heard was rave reviews on his knucklecurve.  And I'd also heard about the mentality problems, sort of a cockiness, overconfidence?

I'm just saying, there's complaining, and then there's b****ing just to b****.  He says he doesn't like that the Sox don't take enough guys with good 'stuff', yet they've drafted Gio and Honel?  Then he calls McCarthy, a 17th round pick of a couple of years ago (right?), a bust?  I'm sorry, that's just b****ing just to b****, IMO.

IMHO that's not b****ing just to b****, but that's calling someone out on the truth. I am one who hates "b****ing just to b****" but clearly the White Sox have taken the control over stuff approach with the pitching draft picks. I'll say it again, it seems like they're trying to find another Buehrle and not trying to find anyone with just nasty stuff that they have to develop.

As for Honel, his knucklecurve was wicked, but in terms of his fastball, I don't remember it being much faster than an El Duque fastball.

Yep, that's exactly what I thought of when I saw Honel pitch before. McCarthy actually reminds me of what I thought Honel would have looked like in the majors with his stuff.

Keep believing what you want in terms of my motives.  I have some very quality sources that add to my baseball insight, and I don't jump on and off bandwagons like many people on this board.  As of now, McCarthy is a bust.  Honel wasn't considered someone with great stuff when we drafted him.  A guy with great stuff, for example, is someone like Verlander.

Where was Verlander picked? 2nd overall?

Guys with great stuff aren't always available at the 15th overall pick. And if they are, there's other problems -- like control.

I believe it's my baseball knowledge that leads me to believe we should trade McCarthy while he still has a lot of value. He wasn't an extremely highly rated prospect last season, and after his quality spring training, his stock went sky-high. Someone with McCarthy's stuff is usually not rated as highly as he has been. In the right trade, you can turn McCarthy into a real difference maker.

/me shakes his head

just because a pitcher with tallent isnt ready for the show and is learning as he goes dosent mean he is a peice of s***... the kids accually a class act with a lot of talent.

so to whoever says f*** you to bmac... i say the real tricks on you... and f*** OFF!

Why? BMac has SUCKED.. I dont care if he has talent and class, GOOD, trade him so we can get something to help us RIGHT NOW.. We are in great shape to make a run, I do not care for players who are struggling at the ML level right now.. This is way too important, people have a right to be mad at BMac right now.. and honestly I wouldnt mind at all if we traded him for something to help us out RIGHT NOW and this season, because thats all that matters right now, this season.. Who knows what we will do next year but right now we are cruising and this is one thing we do not need..

I really don't think that's the case at all... Jim, wouldn't you say so?

Of course, if there's a guy who can throw 99 but can't locate it, and there's a guy who can throw 91-93 who can locate it, they'll go with the latter. But I don't see much of a problem with that.

Again, they went with a lot of 'stuff' guys last year -- Whistler and Gonzalez come to mind immediately.

Yep, need to make a deal.

Just don't be b****ing when it costs a lot.

These same people were saying the same things about Garland two years ago.

Now they're all, "I was on his bandwagon the whole way."

Those guys with 91 mph have a lot lower ceiling than the guys with the overall great stuff. It's up to the minor league developers to get the best out of the player's talent. Please don't tell me that you think our minor league people do a good job at developing players?

VIZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Sweet deal, now let's hold 'em.

Wow, he looked good there.

As for McCarthy, I don't think he'll be a bust, I just don't think his trade value will ever get as high as it is now. Considering that, I think now is the time to trade him. He won't do anything to help us win this year, and this is our year, if there is ever going to be one. Schmidt, Zito, or anyone else, I'm all up for getting. I'd prefer to keep Contreras and El Duque if that is possible. Convert Contreras to the swingman and have El Duque as the #5.
