ATO: Jenks to Chicago, McCarthy Back to Charlotte

Barons closer to join Sox replacing McCarthy on active roster

Bobby Jenks, a right handed fireballer, has been promoted to the Chicago White Sox. Ozzie Guillen announced in the post game press conference after the 4th of July 10-8 win over Tampa Bay that Jenks, 24, would be headed to Chicago to add some depth to the bullpen. To make room for him Brandon McCarthy was sent down to AAA Charlotte due to the fact that the Sox don’t need a 5th starter. McCarthy pitched 3+ innings in Monday night’s game giving up five runs on eight hits and one walk. In five starts this season Brandon is 0-1 with an 8.14 ERA. With the Knights McCarthy is 3-7 with a 5.48 ERA in 11 starts. more...

Topic is pinned, gees Dan you wrote this up very quick I gotta say.  :P

Thanks. Well, I gotta admit I kinda cheated. The paragraph about Jenks' stuff is half of Jason's writing from an article he archived when we thought Jenks was going to Charlotte. As for the other news stuff I keep small tidbits like that on note so when big enough news come I can tag those along all ready to go.

"..........the sox don't need a 5th starter" ????

not until the all star break at least, which at that time hopefully El Duque and Marte will be healthy enough to return and walker and jenks prob go back down.

El Duque is supposed to be back on the 18th of July.

Bastards, this should have been Baj's call up. :fyou

What more does the guy need to do to get a chance at the bigs?  Hopefully he gets included in one of the deadline deals so that he can go somewhere that is willing to give him a real chance.

Well I think its very telling that they didn't call him up, its as if to say he can't pitch here, plain and simple the sox don't believe in him like most of the people on this board, but I would love if he is included in a trade because that means that someone will take him and we don't have to give up someone else that has upside.

i think KW is seeing if he needs to go out and get some pen help but if jenks comes up and does the job he can focus elsewhere, cause kenny now knows we need another starter cause BMAC is not ready,so hopefully jenks gets the job done :gosox3:

its become extremely obvious that Baj will not pitch for the white sox. They are going to send him elsewhere in a package, im almost sure of it at this point. He deserves a chance, and they wont give it to him.

Rock, I not even sure he deserves a chance. i still contend that he is not talked about outside Soxtalk. His name just never comes up. I may be wrong, and he maybe a throw in somewhere, but he also will probably end up a career minor league pitcher. This is of course my opinion only. I have nothing against him but if he is as good as everyone on this board says he is why in the world wouldn't he be here right now? There is plenty of room for great pitchers.

Ross Gload is in Charlotte. He will have another mysterious injury setback before Timo Perez is gone.

More like the Sox are so enamoured with "stuff" that they are overlooking a guy who might actually be able to "pitch". See also Jose Contreras.

Thoughts:

WOA! :o

Well, here he comes, it's Bobby-Time! Although I don't think this was the proper move, I can't wait to see Stay Puff on the Southside. I suppose this week is as good as any for the move as he may get in once or twice during the course of these next two series in a sort of mop-up, righty-specialist move.

Remember though:

Let's not kid ourselves: the stuff is there. It really, truly is. It's simply a matter of confidence and maturity. Does he have what it takes between the ears to make it on a big-league club yet or should he finish the year in BHAM/Charlotte?

Also, I think you guys can kiss Jeff "The Prodigal Son" Bajenaru goodbye. His "career" will not take place on the SouthSide.

I’m definitely looking forward to what Jenks does. I love seeing guys who are fireballers. Stacking up those strikeouts.

As for B-Mac... I was definitely disappointed. Like someone already said, he did very well in Spring Training, the media focused on him so much, which got a lot of people to keep an eye on him. He is truly something special, but he is not ready. A full year (even 2) in Triple A would do more good than bad for Brandon.

I'm quite shocked there is no room on this team for a relief pitcher who has closed at every level and sports a 1.00 ERA. Being as I have never seen him pitch outside of the few times he pitched with the big club. They must either believe he doesnt have the stuff or the makeup to pitch in the bigs.

We will disagree on this. I just don't think he is all that great. But then again I hate minor league players. I love minor league baseball though.

Totally agree. I just think they do not believe in him at all. Career minor leaguer thats it.
