RockRaines
Jay Payton has reportedly been designated for assignment and is about to be traded by the Red Sox. Payton had made it clear that he was frustrated playing only against lefties. It appears the Red Sox have decided to grant his wish of a trade. Adam Stern could be Payton's replacement on the roster, assuming the trade isn't for another outfielder. The Red Sox could start giving Kevin Millar some playing time in right field against lefties, opening up some more at-bats for John Olerud. Balta1701
If he's going to be designated for assignment, who would trade for him? Is there any reason to believe this is any more than just an idle rumor?
nitetrain8601
I heard Kevin Millar also wants to be traded since Olerud is taking up his time.
Balta1701
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) I heard Kevin Millar also wants to be traded since Olerud is taking up his time. Any idea where you "Heard" this at? Millar's another one of those guys who's numbers have taken a severe hit this year compared to last. Season G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2004 150 508 74 151 36 0 18 74 57 91 1 1 .297 .383 .474 .857 2005 72 249 28 68 13 1 4 32 25 35 0 0 .273 .351 .382 .733 You know...looking at his numbers, I can't find anything that tells me he's gotten less playing time than last year...we're barely over 1/2 way through the season, and he's 5 at bats away from having 1/2 of his at bats from last year. His slugging is also way down this year...less power, lower average, and it seems to be stuck that way. I wouldn't be surprised if Olerud took more of his playing time the 2nd half. nitetrain8601
Heard it on ESPN yesterday actually from Peter Gammons himself.

They talked about it a lot on bbtn last night. Millars not happy with Olerud taking some playing time away from him says Peter Gammons. Gene Honda Civic
Payton to Oakland for Chad Bradford http://www.projo.com/redsox/content/projo_...on.22f9127.html At least we've still got Miguel Olivo Freddy Garcia to show for it.

That whole team was on steroids last year. It's no surprise to see any of their numbers suffer this year. And now we see the loss of the ever-talked-about chemistry that the Red Sox had last year. Millar wanting to be traded, Payton gone, and Damon claiming that a bunch of teammates are unhappy that Schilling will be closing.

I heard before last season started that the Red Sox were the team with the most amount of steroid abusers on them. This was from someone within the baseball world.
