Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) Just cause we diss him, doesn't mean we're not rooting for him to do well. Hell, I hate Timo more than anyone else in the history of the Sox, but I still am happy if he does something good to help the team. I just think it's silly to kill the guy for being slow. We've all known he was slow for years. I guess i'm just getting sick of the "what have you done for me lately" attitide i've seen on this board of late. Ozzie Montana
These Oakland players dont swing at many balls, even if they're really close. They adjust real good to the pitches. Thats why Garland threw 110+ in 5 innings. He didnt pitch all that bad just that they are a smart hitting team, especially this Crosby kid. I guess i'm just getting sick of the "what have you done for me lately" attitide i've seen on this board of late. What have you done for me lately? To me, PK has been just about the most disappointing player on the team this season, along with Uribe and Rowand (expected Rowand and Uribe to continue to show improvement at the plate). PK has the 19 homers, but he's struggled all year at the plate in terms of hitting liners and getting runners in. PK is nowhere near the overall hitter he was in the past. They adjust real good to the pitches. Thats why Garland threw 110+ in 5 innings. He didnt pitch all that bad just that they are a smart hitting team, especially this Crosby kid. Garland threw so many pitches because they fouled off a ton of pitches. Garland threw 75 strikes in 111 pitches, that's not a terribly bad number. Only walked 1. He just had a ton of pitches fouled off.
fathom
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:37 AM) Cliff is looking shaky. Not even someone with a 100 mph fastball can get away with the pitches Cliff has thrown tonight. 94 mph fastballs right down the cock are going to be hit hard by MLB hitters (not named Willie Harris). Cliff's been great this year, so an off night here and there is acceptable.

Garland threw 75 strikes in 111 pitches, that's not a terribly bad number. Only walked 1. He just had a ton of pitches fouled off. If you can't consistently strike hitters out, this A's team will eat you alive. The A's have a lot of guys who will strikeout on a regular basis. However, someone like Garland will struggle against the A's because he can't put the hitters away once he gets two strikes. I'll take a 2-1 record against the A's any time from one of our pitchers. fathom
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) I agree with that. I was simply talking about everybody's reaction when he was thrown out earlier. I think it's just the fact that since he is such a one-dimensional hitter now, it gets really annoying because he pulls so many balls, and it ends up being grounders in the hole so often. Thus, his lack of speed is magnified even more.

fathom
A's have missed a lot of chances to blow this game WIDE OPEN. Unless Dye is up, we need to ph Thomas if we get one runner on base. No reason to use him with no one on base, and we're down by more than one.
Milkman delivers
Politte pitched an inning, therefore we'll score at least 3 runs this inning and he'll get the win.

Ozzie Montana
like I said, pierzynski sucks at the plate right now. I wish he could hit like he did against us when he was in a Twins uniform.. He's got a long uppercutting swing when he should have a short swing going the other way, especially with no outs leading off. fathom
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) like I said, pierzynski sucks at the plate right now His bat speed is painfully slow. I know Widger is struggling also, but we need to get AJP some more rest. I was surprised that AJP started all 3 games against Tampa, especially with 2 lefties facing us. And Kevin Walker is warming up....BOOO OZZIE.
