SummerteethPacers
This is getting old. Frank should be playing everygame. I think Ozzie is playing a power game with him and that isnt cool.
CubKilla
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) The guy is coming back from major ankle surgery. He needs a day or two off. Not to mention Everett has earned a starters spot and has been clutch all season.

Steve9347
I think when you have both Harris and Perez in the lineup, you should start Frank.

CSF
Bruce Levine reported on Chicago Tribune Live prior to the game that Frank had been walking around gimpy all day. Also, Rowand & Iguchi were out. It's okay to rest your starters every now and then.
southsideirish71
QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Bruce Levine reported on Chicago Tribune Live prior to the game that Frank had been walking around gimpy all day. You can rest a starter, but to make wholesale changes to your lineup on the first game of the series doesnt bode well.

With Gload coming back after the ASB, this was a chance for Timo and Willie to state their cases. Sadly, Willie didn't state his too well. gettysburg32
Is it more important that Frank plays now with a 10+ game lead in the first week of July, or that he's playing in September and October? A day or two off every week is necessary and smart, especially given the sizeable lead over Minnesota and Cleveland. Having Rowand and Gooch sit as well was a bit upseting, I know Ozzie likes to keep everyone involved and that's generally a good style, but doing it to that extent in the first game of series after a day off? Ehh, oh well.
Balta1701
Ok, this thread is absolutely awful. Frank Thomas spent a full year on the disabled list, and has just barely come back. His legs are clearly not in shape yet...one of them still looks small even to my eyes. He couldn't walk for like 8 months. It is absolutely insane to expect Frank to play every day. He can hardly run the bases, even though he's still faster than Paulie. There is a lot of stress involved in taking BP and taking big swings. He's been sore in his legs for at least a week, if not more. We had an offday on Friday, and Frank got another off day yesterday. That gives him 2 days in a row there, 2 games on, and then another 3 days off to rest and get back into it. That's probably exactly what the big guy needs. We're lucky we have him back at all. We will need Frank Thomas a lot more in August than July...maybe even more in September....and absolutely more in October than in any of them. If he re-injures his leg by overworking it now, he will be back for none of it. He should play no more than 2 games per series unless he feels absolutely fine. He should not be playing with pain right now.

Jake
Frank's hitting a lot of bombs, but he's really anti-Ozzieball. There are a lot of times he strikes out when a lot of our other guys would sac fly or bunt. We're starting to look more and more about the good old all or nothing sox. We just can't string 2 or 3 or 4 singles together. I am all in favor of sitting Frank whenever Ozzie feels necessary. At least move him down in the order. Be Good
I'm very happy with the way Ozzie is handling this situation, either way it's a lose-lose, becuase players and fans are going to be upset either way.
