I believe that the Day trade would be a trade that KW will make to help satisfy SF's interest in two ML ready SPs for Schmidt.

But, that saying...

If Day pitches well for the Sox, KW might not deal him.

that's what i said 3 pages ago

Well, they were saying ealrier in the week that a trade might be close. But wit hall these different rumors, it might just be a smokescreen. But, for some strange reason, if the 3-way was to go thru, I just get the feeling that KW would keep Day. I dont't know why.

I think things are really up in the air at this point. Having seen McCarthy pitch both in the minors and spring training, I really think Kenny wants to hold onto him. Now, some might say, "duh." If this was anyone else but McCarthy generating such a buzz from within the organization, I think this move would have been done already. It really appears Kenny wants to hold onto Brandon and if it means going out and trading for Day in order to do so, that might be exactly what he's doing. That said, if McCarthy isn't the young arm traded, who's it going to be? Even if it is Day, there's going to have to be someone else and who in their right mind is going to want to take on one of the Cubans?

Would these be our options with Day on board?

Option #1 Day is acquired via prospects or a Harris/Perez/Vizcaino type and kept with the White Sox organization for a fifth starters' role until the playoffs.

Option #2 Day is acquired via prospects or a Harris/Perez/Vizcaino type and dealt with someone like McCarthy for the BIG-NAME SP.

Option #3 Day is acquired via prospects or a Harris/Perez/Vizcaino type and dealt with a lesser-known or less-coveted prospect for a middle-of-the-road SP like Lilly, Kennedy, etc.

Day>>>Lilly or Kennedy in overall talent.

What prospects would the Sox have to give up though? Colorado will be getting the Sox prospects and that will cost them more than just going out and getting Zach Day because the Colorado will be looking for prospects they would get for Preston Wilson from the Sox. I would assume they would want some good prospects. Just a prediction on how this would play out:

Colorado Gets:

OF Chris Young

LHP Ryan Rodriguez

Nationals Get:

OF Preston Wilson

White Sox Get:

RHP Zach Day

IIRC, the 40 man roster is full.

Are either Young or Rodriguez on the 40 man?

^^^^^^^^^^^^

If we deal Chris Young for Day someone will die.

the problem is that they are technicly trading for Preston Wilson. They are giving up the prospects for him at least. Wait is J.J. Davis still in the trade to Rockies.

What publication is this story coming from anyway? Its not in any Denver paper, and I haven't seen it in the Washington DC papers.

According to the Washington Post, the White Sox might get involved in a deal that would see Colorado OF Preston Wilson heading to the Nationals. Chicago could get Washington P Zach Day, and would ship prospects and money to Colorado

this was on CBS Sportsline in the rumor section

OK, I see it there. I think if the Sox got Day, he would be for someone else. AJ Burnett, or Jason Schmidt, or Guardado would be my guesses.

That's the popular school of thought.

So...

Colorado loses Wilson's huge deal AND gets money?

That makes no sense.

I suppose that the money is going to Washington to help with the contract, but still...

They would still be on the hook for part of Wilson's contract. The money going their way would be to defray some of that cost. The other problem with this trade is Wilson has to OK it, and it doesn't seem like he's too giddy about the idea. I would be shocked if KW kept Day, or if he did El Duque or Contreras would be gone.

If C Young goes in any deal it will be for a top notch pitcher like Schmidt or Burnett

Could be, but I think this board has a natural and somewhat likeable tendancy to overrate Chris Young and other prospects. Not raining on a parade here but Chris Young strikes out a lot and a big hole in the swing tends to get exploited.
