Milkman delivers
Would the Nationals have any idea what KW would do with Day? I'm sure they've also heard the rumors about the Sox going after Burnett, so they'd probably assume that the Sox would be sending Day to Florida. That might be bad for them, since Florida is in their division. But it also might take Burnett out of their division. I dunno, I'm just =analyzing this thing way too much. JDsDirtySox
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) Could be, but I think this board has a natural and somewhat likeable tendancy to overrate Chris Young and other prospects. Not raining on a parade here but Chris Young strikes out a lot and a big hole in the swing tends to get exploited. totally agree with your thinking, but I for sure want to hang on to Young. I have close ties to someone with an NL Organization... He tells me teams are focused on Young from the Sox even more than B. Anderson. They feel Young has power potential that is just now starting to come out. My guess would be Sweeney would go before Young and Anderson. Not raining on a parade here but Chris Young strikes out a lot and a big hole in the swing tends to get exploited. I must be losing my mind, because I am starting to view prospects like quickman. But one thing I can't understand is why a lot of people are down on Ryan Sweeney. Is it the fact that he has not hit a homer? Robin Ventura only hit 3 homers for Birmingham when he was 22 years old. AddisonStSox
:headshake Why haven't we thought of this earlier...perhaps we have. With Jenks up with the big-league club, he may be auditioning for a vacant RP bullpen spot with a deal involving Vizcaino. Not saying it's a good thing or a bad thing, but Vizcaino may be sent to either Washington or Colorado with some B-Prospect for Day, who would then either slide in the fifth/sixth starter's spot or be used in a deal for an upper-tier SP. GoodAsGould
Young has a chance to be really special... I dont mind trading him but if all we get is Zach Day than Id say hell no to that.
Gene Honda Civic
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) Could be, but I think this board has a natural and somewhat likeable tendancy to overrate Chris Young and other prospects. Not raining on a parade here but Chris Young strikes out a lot and a big hole in the swing tends to get exploited. I can understand this, but there's no way I deal Young this season. I can live with Young's 'hole in his swing' being expoited in our organization next year. I can't live with him hitting 35 HRs for someone else at AAA next year, and hitting 40 for another major league team in the not too distant future. He's just starting to show what he's capable of. 60% of his hits are for Xtra bases! He's still under the radar as far as not being listed as a top 100 prospect. Trading him this year would be the equivalent of trading McCarthy last year at the break, who I'd be fine dealing this year. -- I know what we have there. I have a better idea of what he's capable of. -- Next year if Young is continuing to pound the ball, he will be on the untouchables list. I might be open to trading him then, after we've got a better idea of what he can do at the higher levels, but not now. drowninginflame
QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) this seems more like a deal you make in the offseason. this is not a deal to get us to the promise land. you read my mind
Cubs Suck23
Any news from Chicago looks like the deal got done Despite reports the Nationals have agreed to a deal that would send pitcher Zach Day and outfielder J.J. Davis to Colorado for outfielder Preston Wilson, financial ramifications and Wilson's no-trade clause have prevented the swap, says the Washington Times

JDsDirtySox
The Nats are in the ninth inning right now against the Phillies... I would expect a deal to be announced at the end of this game if in fact there is a deal.
wsox08
was it day that had pinetar or sandpaper in his glove in a game at colorado? I like day, I kind of hope we get him..

JDsDirtySox
The more I think about it... Unless there is more to this that we don't know, I think the Rox can get more than Zach Day and JJ Davis and Cash for Preston Wilson. With Kotsay just resigning with OAK, that leaves alot of teams out there that will need to turn their attention to a guy like Wilson. Southside hitmen
If the Sox are giving about 4M dollars plus prospects so this trade can go through. I think we are going to get alot more back than just Zach Day
ChWRoCk2
if we do this deal i think i would give up all hope because day sucks, and i dont care what any of your says about him, cubs of all teams should be in this three way deal

As for the hitter's park thing. Day is a sinkerballer meaing if he can successfully pitch his sinker and keep it down, whith our defense he could be extremely effective. Now, I'm not saying he is gonna come in and be as good as Jon but they are similar pitchers. If its that simple what's with his ERA over 6.00 and all the walks? Its not like he's pitching for Tampa. He's got a pretty good defensive infield in Washington.

So let me just make sure of this... One of the big reasons people have said we can't use El Duque is that he gives up too many baserunners...he has a WHIP of 1.63, etc. Zach Day has a WHIP of 1.83. In a national league pitcher's park.
beck72
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) In AAA the D-Backs have Scott Hairston who's hitting .307, while Chad Tracy could play more third base to back up Glaus, which is his natural position. They have Matt Kata as well IIRC. They also have SS Sergio santos, IIRC, as a top prospect. Not sure if at AA or AAA
