Dick Allen
I just turned on the Charlotte game and BMac gives up a 2 run shot. The Knights trail 4-0.

Guest JimH
Charlotte lost 4-0 and about the only positive was Borchard, he went 1-2 with two walks, he is now hitting .255 . Some team might actually want him. Box: http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...chraaa_louaaa_1 Winston-Salem scores 6 runs in the top of the 10th to win 8-3. Valido 2-6 with a HR, he is hitting .312 . Box: http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...wswafx_kinafx_1 Bristol plates a run in the top of the 9th to win 4-3. Cunningham with another 2-4 effort, he's at .297, Salvador Sanchez 2-5, he's at .292 . Chisoxfn
Nice to see Spidale with 3 hits down in WS. Collaro also had 2 hits and another bomb (20th). The best 3rd base prospect in the org also hit his 11th hr (Micah Schnurstein) for WS and is starting to develop his power stroke a bit more. Mark my words and I've been saying it a long time but Schnur has the ability to be a total double/hr machine. I just absolutely love his swing. Hell Wes even threw a good game (6 shutout innings for WS) which is a total shock. Sucks to see Bmac struggled again down in Charlotte. He's definately in a funk and needs to get a few starts under his belt and regain some confidence, imo. Big thing is he needs to get the change back into his repetoire and start to relax a bit (I think he was probably pressing a bit at the major league level knowing if he did good he could of replaced Duque). The 2 runs came on a 2 run HR (kind of figures).

I think he's going to be good. From the time we drafted him we knew what we were getting (relatively raw, a lot of power, a lot of strikeouts, below average defense). He's had one bad month and he's improved since (even won a hitter of the week recently). He might just be another Joe Borchard though, which is probably why Sox fans are hesitant to get excited about Fields. Whisler was hurt. Unless he struggles for a longer period of time I'm going to assume that his struggles were due to his injury. Rustiness followed by a lack of confidence. He had a 3.37 ERA for the Hogs last year in 5 starts and a 2.73 ERA through May (7 games, 3 starts) this year before slumping in June. I don't see how a guy can just magically go from that good against a league for a pretty decent period of time to completely sucking against that same level so quickly. It's possible they brought him back too early and he started to feel soreness or whatever once they began to stretch him out again. He had one fully stretched out outing since coming back from the injury. He went 7 innings giving up 1 run (unearned). Then he goes onto get rocked in 6 straight starts. Maybe he was feeling sore once they stretched him out and his injury was flaring up again and he couldn't pitch well. Then maybe he's feeling better, but has no confidence. The last 2 of his 6 bad starts were much better than the first 4 (5 innings 5 er in both, sadly a huge improvement). Long winded way of saying a lot of people have given up on him way too quickly. GoodAsGould
Honestly Ive never ever seen Josh Fields play but from seeing how he progresses by reading BHams recaps and seeing how he struggled in High A first b4 starting to doing really good I think Fields will be good. Although I know his defense was kind of crappy when we first drafted him, I hope he has worked on that a ton, I hate defensive liabilities. BTW, having been written off by many, Donny Lucy has been playing pretty well, no? Fields has had to make adjustments as he's moved up and will always strike out a lot, but he's pretty good defensively and just needs repetitions. I'm in "wait-and-see" mode on several guys we've talked about a lot in the past.
Randar68
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Long winded way of saying a lot of people have given up on him way too quickly. People love to crap on guys when they struggle, especially when they were very critical of him being drafted in the first place, makes them feel right, I suppose. Not saying Jason is being that way at all, but Whisler and Lucy took the most heat last draft and people love to ride them because of their preconceived notions I think... My brother and I loved saying his name, and were like that'd be great to hear everyday in Chicago. Then he went and set the arizona league double record, which showed his power potential, and I've been pysched about him since. And as for Wes, I'm still high on him. His rough stretch never deterred me from liking him.

I'm in "wait-and-see" mode on several guys we've talked about a lot in the past. My love of Schnur is no knock on Fields. Its more a tribute to how much I personally like Micah's potential and ability. And your right on Lucy, its great to see things going well for him. I think we all knew he was a pretty raw guy when drafted, however, his athletic skills are something to semi marvel at considering he's a catcher. I hope he can keep things up. In Whislers case I just think he has a long way to go, right now he throws a lot of different pitches, but to me, he doesn't have one "great" pitch. Of course Buehrle doesn't have one great pitch either (and I'm definately not comparing the two). Whisler may be alright, but he's very raw and I'll admit, he's never been one of my favorite prospects. I do see why the Sox like him though. He had a good arm and it had low mileage.
