Personal: Ryan Austin Rote... Born 8/8/82 in West Palm Beach, Fla.… Son of Rock and Bonnie Rote... Has one sister, Aubrianne... Grandfather is NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Tobin Rote who played for former Vanderbilt letterman and athletic director Jess Neely at Rice University and later led the Green Bay Packers to the 1957 NFL Championship… Majoring in Human and Organizational Development…Favorites include: The movie The Punisher, the TV show CSI, Tom Petty Nolan Ryan, Tom Hanks and the New York Mets…Craziest ambition is to sky dive…Most memorable Vanderbilt sports moment is winning the 2004 NCAA Charlottesville Regional…Lists Willie Mays as the greatest baseball player of all time.

 

High School: Was selected in the 25th round of the 2001 MLB Draft by Texas… Lettered and started four years for coach Jim Pease at Kettle Moraine HS in Wales, Wis.… Was named first team All-Classic 8 Conference in 2001… Played summer ball for the Waukesha Blazers throughout high school… Also earned three varsity letters in basketball and two in football… Named to the honor roll all four years.

 

At Kishwaukee College (2002-03): Played two years at Kishwaukee College in Malta, Ill., for coach Mike Davenport… The Kougars were 41-16 in 2002 and 44-17 in 2003… Was selected Athlete of the Year in 2003… Appeared in nine games and started eight for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots of the Alaska Baseball League… Went 4-3 with a 3.95 ERA… Struck out 35 with seven walks in 43.1 inning… Drafted by Anaheim in the 29th Round of the 2002 Draft.

 

Vanderbilt As a Junior (2004): Made team-high 29 appearances and pitched 31 innings giving up 17 earned runs on 32 hits…was 1-4 with a school record 11 saves and a 4.94 ERA…Drafted in the 37th round by the New York Yankees… Retired the side in the ninth inning vs. Virginia in a 7-3 victory to claim the NCAA Regional championship…In the SEC Tournament he pitched 2.2 innings and gave up two runs on three hits while striking out seven and walking one…Set the VU sngle-season saves record at Tennessee (5/9) as he retired the side in the ninth inning of a 3-2 series-clinching victory for his 10th save…Pitched a career-high 2.2 innings at LSU (5/15)…Rote picked up his first win as a Commodore in his third appearance of the season going 0.2 innings and striking out one in the Purdue win. Rote also recorded a save vs. Southern Illinois. SEC Academic Honor Roll

 

Former Head Coach Tim Corbin (Vanderbilt) Says: "Ryan came right into our program last year and immediately took the closing role. He is a very reliable pitcher who has become a leader on our staff. He will be counted on heavily again this season. A very intense competitor who can throw three pitches for strikes. He’s also an outstanding student."
