JUGGERNAUT
I never believed in 1 MVP for a team because of the way work is dealt out. Mark is the MVP of the rotation. Sorry Jon. Hermy is the MVP of the bullpen. Sorry Politte. Everett is the MVP of the lineup. Sorry Koney. What constitutes an MVP of the lineup? What you do when it counts the most & how it helps others. Everett RON 46RBI, .352A/.397O/.593S - helps those behind him a LOT Konerk RON 43RBI, .231A/.325O/.435S - helps those behind him very little. No other player has more than 40RBI's in RON sits. Balta1701
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) No other player has more than 40RBI's in RON sits. How do Thomas's numbers compare there, given that he's only been around for a couple weeks?

witesoxfan
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:25 AM) Has anyone of those players singlehandedly made multiple players better around them? What would be the net effect of having Ben Davis behind the plate for all of those games vs AJ. Tell me that guys like Garland and Contreras would be having the years they are having with Jaime Burke behind the plate. Tell me how many key hits that Chris Widger would have had if he was playing everyday. No one is denying that those guys you listed are important, but the guy that is most valuable to this team is AJ. The lineup is among the weakest in the league if Pods and Goochi aren't setting the table well. The '03 Dodgers proved very well that you can have the best pitching in the league and still not win if you don't have offense. Not sure if this team alone has 1 set in stone MVP. I'm just not sure you can make that argument. You can make the argument that some are more valuable than others...you can do that with any team. AJP has definately been one of the most valuable, that is for sure though.
