Having an openly gay player on a team WOULD be a huge distraction, and I don't think a gay player should make his sexuality an issue. At the same time, to suggest that pitchers would "throw at his head" is a bit wrong. Nobody should be a victim of head-hunting (no pun intended). Jones is right -- he shouldn't have made him comments public, but he shouldn't be crucified for his opinions, just as a homosexual shouldn't be crucified for his lifestyle choices. In the US, homosexual sex is the #1 spreader of HIV. #2 is heterosexual sex. #3 is through exposure to blood or other body fluids (sharing needles). Also on the list are blood transfusions (nowadays it's a 1 in 100,000 occurance), and an uncommon way is through tissue or organ transplantation or by the mixing of blood after a serious accident. I wonder if Todd Jones was watching last night. Kind of ironic. It's really sad that there's people out there that honestly feel this way. My mothers best friend contracted AIDS during a blood transfusion 11 years ago and I know a LOT about it. And again, you ARE incorrect. There are MORE hetro people in the US with AIDS than homosexual. The #1 way of contraction is blood transfusions. Yes.. homosexuals, just like lesbians and hetro's, can pass it along. There is no proof at all that Gays spread or contract AIDS more than heterosexuals do. Vaginal, oral, and anal sex spread AIDS at the same rate, which is around 100 percent.
