How Rich Harden outperformed Unit in his bid for perfection

1. I saw Randy Johnson's perfect game last May in Atlanta, but I'll tell you, Rich Harden's two-hit, 6-0 victory against Texas on Thursday night looked just about as impressive. Harden took a perfect game going through 8 1/3 innings before Alfonso Soriano reached out and poked a broken-bat single into center. Harden gave up another soft single in the ninth to David Dellucci. That was it. Here's why Harden's gem was as nearly as impressive as the Unit's perfect game:

• Johnson twirled his against the Braves, who were awful at the time. The Braves had struck out 18 times against the Brewers' Ben Sheets the game before. Harden threw his complete-game shutout against Texas, which leads the American League in OPS, slugging percentage and home runs and is third in home runs.

• Johnson threw harder, at least more consistently. Of his 117 pitches, 18 of them were at 97 mph or better. Harden hit 100 mph, but he was all about efficiency. He threw only 81 pitches and went to a three-ball count only once, when he was charged with a ball for putting his hand to his mouth while on the mound in the seventh inning. He wasn't as lucky as the Unit. But he was nearly as good.

Im sorry, but a perfect game is just that. A 2 hitter will never be better than a perfect game. Its PERFECT YOU f***ING MORON. PERFECT. HE DID NOTHING WRONG. NO WALKS. NO HITS. NO ERRORS. P-E-R-F-E-C-T

The Braves were awful at the time? GMAFB. The Braves ended the year 96-66, in first place, in the playoffs.

Donovan is such a moron it is unreal.

Actually I believe the Sheets game was right after the UNit game

It was. The braves really couldn't hit at that point but there's still no way you can declare a 2 hitter better then a perfect game but that's jmo.
