He tells what he believes is the truth, and he supports his friends. Obviously his "leadership" hasn't been that bad this season because everyone has said great things about Paul, and NO ONE has come out and said anything bad about what Paul is saying. If someone wanted to say something, you can bet the reporter would find that person.

 

As it is, nobody in the clubhouse cares. Juan probably doesn't even know that Paul said Royce is the best SS (he meant defensively) hes played with. Why? HE DOESN"T CARE. None of them do.

 

I'm sure Paulie and Maggs hung out all the time :rolly Of course no one has said anything bad about Paul, they have other things to worry about, and use more than 1/8 of their brain when asked a question.

 

My question is why does he continue to take the alternative and often dumb route when it comes to these type of questions? I've been extremely disappointed with his antics with the media and at the plate this season.

I don't dislike Paulie at all...I love having him here, however there are times he says things that just make me go : ?!

 

Maybe it's just me, but when your current SS is struggling, you don't go and say "Royce Clayton is the best SS I've ever played with", even if it IS true...it was the last thing Uribe needed to hear from his so called team "leader". Leaders are supposed to elevate guys on their team who are struggling, even if only mentally...and comments like that did not help!

 

Same goes for his comments on Maggs...yes, Konerko may feel Maggs was the best hes ever played with...but what does Dye think about that?! Wow...am I chopped liver here?! It goes without saying, but if I'm at work and my boss says to me, wow...the guy who was here before you was just soooooooooooooo much better than you, how the F!@# does that make me feel?!

 

Wake up...these comments may seem innocent because he's telling the truth, but they aren't confidence inspiring to his current team. That is not what leaders do. Ever.

By my count, this is about the 4th or 5th thread about something "terrible" that Paul said this season, and I don't remember any of them being remotely rational. This one takes the cake. There is absolutely no harm in this statement. He said Maggs is the best player he's ever played with, and you can make a strong case that he's right. He didn't say he was the only great player he played with, nor did he intentionally put anybody down. If a player somehow takes this personally, they should probably grow thicker skin.

I'll agree with that.. and I have no problem with Paul thinking that.. however.. is it necessary to call 2 ex Sox great players when you're team is currently in first place having the best season in 80 years.. 12 games up, etc, etc..?? That's where I find this all funny.. and sad. Not just Paul.. but every single one of the guys whenever they are asked should be saying nothing but things about this team and the awesome year they are having. JMO..

 

Yah, I agree with a lot of that, but the media doesn't want to hear about that. They need a new angle. With Maggs coming back for the first time thats the angle. I'm sure when Paul was asked to comment on Maggs and what type of player he was, Paul said Maggs was the best he's ever played with which I think is pretty much true. I don't have any problem with that comment.

None of us know how anyone on the team feels. Uribe may have been pissed, but instead of ripping Pauly, maybe we can put a positive spin on it and think that if Uribe IS pissed, that he talked to Pauly and they worked it out.

 

Dye on the other hand has been in this league too long to care what a Paul Konerko says to the media ONCE. These guys really only get pissed because of two things, something that is blatantly wrong that is repeated constantly and personal attacks.

 

I can't imagine a one time thing isn't going to get anyone's panties in a bunch. Let's drop it and enjoy the first sweep of the Indians in Cleveland in 42 years.

I don't even care what they were.. shots, not shots. Doesn't matter. I just think it's best to focus on the great season they are having. I don't see the point in bringing up how good anyone else is/was/etc. I think there is more than enough material for Paul to be praising his current teammates and don't understand why he needs to praise others.

Konerko often makes comments that are what I call "subtle sabotage". I dislike dealing with people who in engage in this and generally try to say as little as possible to them. They make for an unpleasant work environment. The White Sox have the best chance in my lifetime to have a very special season. Just shut up Paul, and work on that swing.
