Our Feelings On A Trade

My feeling is that, as the best team in baseball, we shouldn't stand pat when it comes to trades. I'm not saying we should make a trade just to make one, but I think you need to make the team better if you want to make it to the World Series. Look at what the Cards did last year, they traded for Larry Walker, but did they really need him? I really think that we should try and get an SP/3B. If Burnett goes to the O's, I think we really should try to make a push for Ted Lilly and possibly Joe Randa.

 

On another note:

I was listening to ESPN Radio last night and Gary Miller said that other American League teams should be terrified of the fact that the Sox are probably going to make a big trade.

I have a feelings that Kenny is waiting for July 30th before he makes his moves. The asking price right now is just too unreasonably high. Why pay high now when you can get cheaper as we get closer to the trade deadline?

Thats a good point, I wouldn't be suprised if he pulled of something suprising around then.

Regular season is one thing but this team needs to do ANYTHING to get to the goal a World Series, winning central is nice but that is not the goal they should have, this excuse by KW about chemistry BS when attendance is good is getting a little old with me.

I don't know what waiting until near the deadline really accomplishes. Last year all the Yanks got for waiting was Loaiza...

 

Point is by that time most of the bigger names are gone, and the scraps are left.

team chemistry is an excuse to not take a risk. It would be an emotional letdown to the players if it didn't appear ownership was willing to do what it takes to win it all. I think though that Kenny is keeping his cards close to his chest and will make an impact move. I hope we send prospects and not big leaguers, that's the best way to preserve "team chemistry"

Realistically, these teams don't have a chance but aren't ready to sell off their players. One losing streak will turn a few teams into sellers that we aren't talking about now.

This year is odd in that so many teams are still in it. Standing pat is not that bad, IMO.

Here's the interesting thing about GM's though and one that's not always brought up because it's not as highly publicized...but sometimes it's the trades that AREN'T made that can make a great GM.

 

Overpaying for a rental isn't always what the team needs. In the Around the Horn thread, I asked if there were any deadline deals that put a team over the top? I mean, big time trades, like Randy Johnson to the Astros. That didn't get them to the World Series and they lost him the next year. Someone responded that the last big one was the Yankees in '96 or '98 and the only one I found was Sierra and a minor leaguer for Cecil Fielder. I guess that was blockbuster at the time.

 

All I'm saying is, a big splash fades away, but a bunch of little stones keeps the ripples going.

I agree, but that isn't a "big" trade. Like getting a Mariano Rivera, Eric Gagne (if healthy), or someone like that.

 

Eddie Guardado would be a "medium" trade in my book, but great for the Sox.

I think we need to make some sort of trade, because I dont think we can win the series with this team yes they rule and they are the best team ever but we havent even played are main postseason competition yet the red sox and yankees. This weekend will really show us what kind of team we have. Also, I think we need to make a trade to show the players that we care and want them to win but I hope KW dosent go out there and makes a trade to make a trade. I trust KW will make a trade that will help this team out alot.
