Why scoreboard watch the Twins any more?  I'm watching the A's more hoping they do not make the wildcard.

:chair Until the Sox clinch the division, I will be more concerned about the Twins. If we're scared of the f***ing A's, we don't deserve to win s***.

Jason Schmidt or Jose Contreras, who do you pick?

No explanations, no money issues, just who would you rather have pitching on the Sox?

Based on this season's performances so far, I'd pick Contreras, based on numbers, however if Schmidt comes back into the dominating pitcher he was, of course you take Schmidt.

The simple fact of the matter is that Schmidt >>>>> Contreras. Period. There is no argument. Schmidt has postseason experience. Successful at that. Schmidt knows how to pitch. He has confidence. Contreras is highly overrated. Arguing that Contreras is better than Schmidt is like arguing that Glendon Rusch is better than Freddy Garcia.

He's not the only pitcher to have postseason experience. Hideo Nomo has postseason experience, does that make him good? He has confidence? Many other pitchers may have confidence in their abilities, doesn't mean they're automatically going to put up great performances though. And why would you include our best pitching prospect along with Contreras and Shingo just for Schmidt while we're at it?

Schmidt of last year might be better than Contreraras of last year, but this year Contreras blows him away, and its not even close.

Your argument is that because Schmidt was good in the past, in the NL in a pitchers park, he'll be good when he comes here when he has been terrible this year compared to Contreras.

4-2 with a 2.77 ERA in his last 6 starts.

Again, just a name. Which guy would you want to be your starter?

Congrats, you agree with probably 1 percent of baseball executives then.

Do we have a comparison of walks given? The batting avg. against is very misleading. If i remember corretly, 57 BB/ 79 K for Contreras. AND that is not good. Gotta agree with you Fathom.

It's like you don't know how to read. It's amazing.

Coming into tonight Contreras ranked 20th in the league in ERA. Ahead of Randy Johnson, Jeremy Bonderman, and many others. If you figure there are 75 pitchers in the league, he would be in the 2nd starter percentile. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Are you high? The only reason his ERA is of that cliber is because one day he is great and the next three games he sucks ass. It balances out....hence, it is called Earned Run AVERAGE.

Did you fall off the face of the earth last weekend before the All Star break. I would be more concerned with A's.

Because Shingo will be gone anyway. So basically it's Count/BMac for Schmidt/El Duque. BMac was less than spectacular in his performance in the bigs. Besides, when has a prospect KW traded become very successful and up to par with his expectation?

And are you seriously comparing Schmidt to Nomo???

Well, if the Sox don't beat out the Twins, the Sox will be watching the Twins and A's play in the postseason then. I'd rather play the A's instead of the Yankees or Red Sox in a short series, no doubt about it.

He still has an ERA above 5 in his away starts (which is higher than Contreras in his home starts even after tonight), and a .297 BAA in those starts and got bombed at the Padres (which BTW if Jose did we'd probably want him to jump off a cliff or something). Let's see how he does tonight, and see how his velocity looks especially on that fastball.

Uuuum, no. This is not wrapped up yet. As you can clearly see, it is July 19th. Look at what the Astros did last year after adding Beltran.

Padres have always hit Schmidt hard. One of the big advantages, if we did get Schmidt, is that he would be a new look against a majority of the AL players.

The next 3 games!!??? Didn't 007 have a stat that said he'd only given up more than 4 runs only 4 times in all of his starts this season? How can it balance out, if you give up 1 ER in a start, than 6 in each of your next 3?

No, your the one that has it wrong.

He has "sucked ass" 3 times this year in 19 starts. In those starts he gave up more than 4 runs. in his other SIXTEEN starts he has given up 4 runs or less in everyone of them. in 12 of those 19 he has given up 3 runs or less.

He has been bad (more than 4 runs) in one out of every 6.3 starts, the SAME percentage as Buerhle and Garland. But don't let facts get in the way of your uninformed bashing.

You're right. BMac's career is over at age 21. :headshake :headshake :headshake :headshake

Yes, it's not like getting an AL pitcher and throwing him out there.
