Big Hurtin
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) First off let me say here I'm not comparing the Bosox offense to our's I'm just trying to make the point about the consistancy of our offense: Here's an interesting stat, i just used 4 runs, cause usually when teams with good pitching score 4 runs they're going to win. Anyways the Red Sox have failed to score atleast 4 runs in 28 of their games this year, the White Sox 30, and the Red Sox are said to be the best offense in baseball, i guess if our O is that inconsistant so is their's Also, the Bosox have been shut out twice this year, our sox 3 times. There have been games where they've scored them in bunches. For example, twice they beat the Yankees 17-1. That is why you have to look deeper than the numbers. That is why you can never have too much quality pitching. Hitters tend to "fatten up" on bad pitching. That being said, the thing with teams like the Red Sox, is that they have that 1 guy (or two) who scares you when he's up with the game on the line. For them it's Ortiz and Manny. The Angels have Vlad. I don't think the White Sox have that guy. Frank used to be that guy, but I don't think he'll ever be the same. Does that mean they automatically lose? No, but that is why there is more pressure for their pitching to be even better, IMO.
WHarris1
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 10:11 PM) Yes we are the second worst team in the AL to Seattle in OBP. No.

Here's the thing, everyone here seems to expect an explosion every now and then from our offense but there are people claiming our O is inconsistant. In other words I'm saying that the same people who are calling our offense inconsistant would probably be doing the same for the Red Sox offense if they were fans of the Bosox. You are very correct that we don't have that 1(or 2 in the case of Boston) stud in the middle of the lineup like Boston or Anaheim.

That would be a moral victory right now. Look at the Bosox lineup. 90% of their hitters would start over our guys if you compared their bats to ours. But hey we have 3 defensive specialists on our team.

It sucks though, that it had to come on a night when the offense couldn't do ANYTHING right. He's only got so many bullets left (who knows how old he REALLY is), I hope it's a good sign that he'll be healthy down the stretch and not an anomaly. Everett has been somewhat consistent this season but Konerko has been atrocious in the clutch all season long. He inspires fear in nobody.
Brian
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:04 AM) I don't give a rat's ass if you believe it or not. I watch every game and I see us get 4 hits or less a lot. Our offense sucks and our pitching is great. I stated something that I believe from watching them play, not something for which I scrupulously looked up stats. I didn't say, "here, this is fact. Accept it!" It's a conclusion I came to on my own. Watch closer. Sox have only had 4 or less hits in only 6 games out of 96. Won 2-1 vs. Seattle and a 2-1 win vs. KC. 2-0 loss to Cubs, 6-2 loss to Oakland, 10-1 loss to Oakland, 7-1 loss to Detroit.

southsideirish71
I forget our offense is fine. The lucky Redsox snagged a bunch of frozen ropes, the strikeouts were bad calls by the ump, and the pop ups when men were on were just missed hangers that if Paulie didnt pass gas during his stroke would of landed on the Dan Ryan. Luckily we done have to face quality starters in the playoffs. All our offense needs to do is score a single run on a few hits and our super dooper oobber pitching will shut down any offense. Because all of the other teams pitching stinks and the whitesox are the best.

Brian
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) I wondered about us in comparison to other teams. I'm willing to bet other teams have struggled more than us. I mean 6 out of 96 games isn't anything to worry about. In a 162 game season, you have ups and downs. The pitching has still been good and that settles me down.

The hitting just frustrates the hell out of me. It's really, really bad. Maybe it just seems worse than it is to me, but it's definitely not good. Personally, I think we're going to have to wait until after the season to realize what's more important. Earlier in the year, we were capitalizing on everything (we also feasted off of some terrible bullpens). If we don't capitalize on our opportunities, then our run total is going to plummet. We need someone to get locked in like Dye was before the ASB.
