knightni
Two games in a row he's given up a run in the 9th. Is his back still hurting him or is he just coming back down to the real world? Should Marte/Politte/Cotts/Jenks get a shot at closing a few games? Would Wagner/Batista be more important to this team than Burnett/Schmidt? Chisoxfn
He didn't give up a run in todays game? He pitched quite well actually. Manny got a hit off him after Duque crapped over. His velocity was fine and he did his job.

Is his back still hurting him or is he just coming back down to the real world? Should Marte/Politte/Cotts/Jenks get a shot at closing a few games? Would Wagner/Batista be more important to this team than Burnett/Schmidt? Um, no. That was Marte's runner that he allowed to score.
Sonik22
that was marte's run. Edit: No need for that last line. Edited July 25, 2005 by Chisoxfn
knightni
He still allowed the run to be knocked in. He's been shaky, not dominant like you'd expect from a closer.

However, he did a good job closing out the game for us.
Nokona
It was a seeing eye single for christ's sake. The guy has 23 saves in 24 chances. The only time he sucks is when he's NOT in a save situation.
Sonik22
yeah but he didn't give up a three run blast, can't people just be happy with a win?
Rowand44
QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) He still allowed the run to be knocked in. He's been shaky, not dominant like you'd expect from a closer. He allowed one hit and that run meant nothing. Nothing to worry about, to be honest you see most closers get hit a bit before they close it down and that's including Wagner or Lidge or Everday Eddie. Hermy's blown 1 save, he's done an awesome job.
White Sox Josh
I could care less how interesting he makes it as long as he gets the job done. That's why i was actually ok With Koch when he was actually saving games because he got the job done. If you don't like it, don't watch. knightni
Alright, geez. Don't have to burn me at the stake, I was just asking a question. I missed the game today, but I noticed that he gave up a run in the ninth for the second time in three days. Hermanson is the closer, I'm cool with that. I was just speculating. He's been shaky, not dominant like you'd expect from a closer. it was manny ramirez, future HOF, not some AAA callup. also, i do think it would be more important to get a guardado-type reliever instead of an elite starter. also, marte should not close till he can prove he can pitch well in the 8th. Milkman delivers
Jeez, take it easy on the guy. He never posts crap and he just happened to miss today's game. I think he's done enough in his time on this board to warrant a free pass here.

I've been worried about Hermanson for a while now, but he keeps doing the job. We have plenty of other closer options on the team right now. maggsmaggs
Closers' jobs are rated based on one stat, IMO. save %; Dustin is 23/24, 96%, damn good and the best in the league. Dustin is doing everything we ask, he has been dominant.

I'd love to add Wagner and push Hermanson back to set-up. For all the talk of chemistry that he's said, he shouldn't care about letting Wagner close and he might even get better because of the competition. As for what Hermy... we could be far worse off... he was 8 for 11 in Save Situations before he lost his job. In fact he racked up 7 straight saves before blowing one against Oakland. This was in 04. knightni
Hermanson has been anything but overpowering when converting his saves. He has been fortunate so far on at least 5 or 6 occasions that that defense has bailed him out.
nitetrain8601
He did quite well. Would I take him over a Wagner? No, but we don't have any current Wagners on this team.
WSFAN35
Hermanson has been getting the job done, however it doesn't mean he's going to get the job done when facing a formidable opponent in a playoff pressure situation. I would feel much more comfortable with a closer like Wagner, who hitters fear when they step up to the plate. I don't see anyone being afraid of Hermanson. You could make the same argument that the defense has bailed out all of our pitchers.
