Wirtz is still in 60's

Recommended Posts

What will not change is their policy of not televising regular-season home games. But Peter Wirtz said that if the Hawks make the playoffs this season, all of their postseason games—including home games—would be televised.

For the last couple of seasons, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has talked about how the ability of televising games in high-definition will raise the profile of the league and help create a new generation of fans.

The Hawks are partners with Comcast SportsNet, which televises home—but not road—White Sox, Cubs and Bulls games in high-definition. So the Hawks, playing in the NHL's third-largest market, will not have their games broadcast in high-definition.

The elder Wirtz again defended his policy of keeping home games off television.

"For 30 years, people ask the same question," Wirtz said. "Everyone has their own point of view and we have ours."

The Wirtz family ( yes, all of them ) have no interest in building the game, enticing new fans to watch hockey or anything other than raping the 8 to 12,000 fans who visit the UC to watch hockey.

They are a disgusting pack of wolves ( pardon the pun ) who care nothing about the game their "property" plays.

They claim to care about their "season reservationists" yet once these people die or give up their "reservations", there will be no one to take their place because of the horribly bad public relations these dopes have engaged in for decades.

When Gin Blossom Bill dies, you will see the kids reveal their true colors, too. They know full well how their family got rich and they will do NOTHING differently, despite public posturing to the contrary.

The only hope for Chicago Blackhawks fans is that the kids decide they don't want to deal with it and sell the team to someone who gives a s***.

f*** Wirtz and the beer keg he rode in on.

I hate the Wirtz family, they're as bad of owners there are in sports. they stumble across owning an Original 6 team, and refuse to give them a chance. not only do they not pay for any players, they pull some bulls*** on the fans to prevent them from watching home games on TV, then charge too much for tickets. what pisses me off most is they say things like "Everyone has their own point of view and we have ours." I wish they'd cut the crap and say "Well, I've found that if I put a crappy team on the ice, and blackout home games to force the fans to buy overpriced tickets, I can make more money for myself", because he's really not fooling anybody.

It makes me scratch my head how fans can profess loyalty to a team where the owner has been f***ing them over for years. Here's a news flash for the 2 dozen or so Blackhawk fans still left. Dollar Bill wont change his ways unless you stop giving him your money!! He wont change anything he's doing now because there are still enough suckers showing up at the UC for him to turn a profit. The only way Dollar Bill will change is if the fans stop coming.

You want change you need to stay at home and make that asshole feel it in his wallet. I guarantee you if you people stay home and only about 5000 or less people show up to watch the Hawks get shut out at home......again.........things will get better.

with the new salary cap, boycotting ain't gonna help anything. If Dollar Bill is dropping ticket prices, you know he isn't hurting with the new cap. Let's pool some money together and buy the 'Hawks off of him. I pledge $10.

I don't know what's wrong with me, but I'm pretty excited to watch some Blackhawks hockey once things get underway. I've never been a huge diehard follower, but I got to go to a few games before the lockout, and live hockey is breathtaking. That was before I got my liscence, so now I definetly plan to drive up there to catch some games. IIRC, they also had student tickets in the upper level on weeknights for 8 bucks or something. That's a good deal to see any sporting event. And as far as no home games on TV, it sucks, but radio is not too bad on 670 with Foley, I think his name is. Whatever, I am probably crazy, but I'm still excited. :headbang

Hell, if I had enough money I'd love to buy the Hawks.

Foley is part of the reason that I don't mind (as much) the home games not being on TV. I mean, of course, if you can choose TV or radio, you're gonna take watching 'em on TV. But Foley is the best P-B-P announcer in Chicago, bar none. And that's saying a lot, 'cause we're blessed to have some real good ones (Rooney, Joniak -- he's getting better every year, and he really does his homework, the Bulls guy whose name escapes me, and even Pat Hughes isn't bad).

I refuse to go to the games because of Wirtz, and a lot of people have done the same, but just imagine how bad of a team he will put out there when he starts to feel it in his wallet and spends even less. hell what's wrong with these owners, Steinbrenner and Cuban pay a lot in salaries (and extras), and they seem to be doing pretty well for themselves.

Well, at one of the few games I attended, we were in the upper level and it was sometime in the 3rd period, not a huge crowd. All of a sudden Wirtz just shows up with his entourage, much to the surprise of all the diehards, who all happen to be drunk. One, IIRC, was even wearing a $ Bill jersey. So anyway, they all went nuts, yelling at him "Uncle Bill, Uncle Bill!" Then he bought them all beer.

I lol'ed

I was at the Hawks game where Savard's number got retired, Wirtz went up to give a speech about him, and you could not hear a word that he said, the entire stadium was booing. It's hard explaining to someone who is not a Hawks fan just how much Wirtz has setback this once proud franchise.

Wirtz always has said he doesn't show home games out of respect to his season tickket holders... now not only is that the most insane statement ever but the question is now....How many season ticket holders do you still have $Bill??

see that's the kind of crap I was talking about a few posts ago, I'd rather he tell the truth, because nobody's buying what he's saying now.

Exactly how many people ( not corporations ) are there out that are stupid enough to have season tickets to the Slackhawks?

I feel the same way, to an extent, on Tom Hicks for the Stars... he's one of the biggest reasons why we just went through the lockout, although, for the opposite reasons, he was foolish with his money.

But I will have at least a partial season ticket package for the Stars, because I love the game.

even though he says he is protecting the season ticket holders by not televising home games, i am positive if he ask every season ticket holder if they cared if the home games were televised they wouldnt. he is definetly living in the 20's not the 60's
