The latest scoreboard update on the score said that they Sox wan't nothing to do with Lowell now. They still are working on a trade to acquire Burnett however. Right now the onlything that is preventing it is the longterm deal issue. KW doesn't want to make a trade for a rent-a-player. It also said that KW is scouting rboth Huff and Overbay- due to Frank's health issues. Is this a sign that Frank might be done for the year???

Peter Gammons is a f***ing moron. How does he get away with this s***.

A.J. BURNETT WAS HURT IN 2003, HE DID NOT PITCH IN THE POSTSEASON. HE HAS ABSOLUTLY NO POSTSEASON EXPERIENCE.

That is just disgraceful.

Look what gets you in the Hall of Fame nowadays...

This just reported by The Score 670 AM:

The Marlins deal no longer includes Mike Lowell.

The White Sox would have to agree to an extension with AJ Burnett before the trade is completed.

The White Sox are scouting both Lyle Overbay and Aubrey Huff to replace Frank Thomas.

I didn't know it was reported already. I should probably try reading a little better. Thanks for posting it.

No problem. I'm just as excited as you are in regards to all this trade talk. I'm going to be listening to the radio shows as much as I could until the deadline.

This Overbay, Huff talk sounds really interesting... anyone got stats on these guys?

We already know everything about Burnett.

All I know Huff can play 1b, 3b, of, he is a left handed bat with power and hits for avg. He can turn our hitting woes around. Oh man Huff would be nice.

Regarding Burnett, I speculate that Kenny feels the way alot of us feel. A trade for Burnett ain't worth it if its only a rental. I think he took the same line of thought when he made the Garcia trade and that trade wouldn't have happened if Kenny wasn't confident that we'd sign him. The only thing that would justify bringing in Burnett as a rental would be a World Series ring. Anything short would make the trade a disaster.

As for Huff or Overbay, I think we are scouting them for two reasons: 1. Lack of confidence in Frank's health, and 2. Lack of confidence in Pauly returning next year. They'd both be fine additions, although Overbay would probably be a lot cheaper.

Aubrey Huff would be a better pick up than Burnett or Schmidt IMO ,

Here's a question: would you give up the same amount for Huff as was proposed for Burnett (Marte & McCarthy)? And would that be enough in the minds of Tampa Bay?

I say yes and no.

I would give the same package. you are right though , most likely that would not be enough for Huff.

Tampa Bay would want WAY more than McCarthy and Marte.

I think the real question is:

Would Huff/Overbay over Everett help more than Burnett/Schmidt over Contreras? I say no, but then again we would have Huff or Overbay for more than just this season which may not be the case for Burnett. If we were able to swing for one of each, the dream would continue...

Overbay would be a perfect short and long term fit for the White Sox. Plus with the duel successes of the Pods/Viz-Lee trade, I could see these teams matching up for another deal as the Brewers would like to free up some spots for their big prospects, and the Sox would like a shot at some of their players.

I think Konerko at DH and Overbay at 1B with Everett off the bench would be a ridiculous upgrade over what we currently have more so than Burnett over Contreras.

I really dont see us signing Burnett. He just seems really committed to go to some big name east coast team (NYY or BOS). IMO it is not worth getting him for 2+ months when you could used those (possibly) wasted prospects to aquire Huff or Vizquel or Schimdt for those 2+ months and the future. But hey, if KW can get Burnett and resign him, more power to him. I just dont see it happening. Schmidt and Vizquel is the best deal right now if the Giants can drop their price.

Huff would help more. He is a left-handed bat who always seems to heat up in August in spetember. ( when I say heat up I mean hit over .350) He can play 4 positions. With Credes back being a factor Huff would be a HUGE pick up.
